The short-lived Broadway play PRYMATE featured André De Shields as a monkey who communicated with his deaf scientist friends through sign language:

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE features a Monkey Ballet in the song "Bride's Lament," poignantly originated by Sutton Foster and currently featuring Mara Davi:

Posted: 8/14/07 at 11:51amI am rather monkey obsessed. I pride myself on being able to relate any musical to monkeys- for example, Gypsy is a musical about a mean woman who doesn't want to share a birthday cake with her monkey.

Chee-chee the Monkey played by Aaron Burr
here is one other tap number in the show, the "Monkey-Monkey Island Dance." Tune shares the stage with Aaron Burr, a twelve-year-old tapper playing Chee-Chee, the monkey.

The Marx Brothers stage musical THE COCOANUTS (which also became their first movie) had a big song and dance number called "The Monkey-Doodle-Doo", written by Irving Berlin.
