Shows in Ireland

Is there any good musicals coming to Ireland on tour?

I understand from a previous thread that Dublin needs a decent theatre, then it could be put on the map, with the bigger touring shows, such as Mary Poppins, We Will Rock You, The Sound of Music etc.

I would say no to that. The Gaiety is far to small, sadly, for you to have the nanny in Dublin.
Just look a the venues its playing on tour, nothing much smaller or bigger than the Prince Edward!
Maybe when Kenwright gets hold of it in 20 years time you'll get the non flying nanny in The Gaiety!

Yeah, the Gaiety is very small. I remember that they actually had to remove some set pieces from Blood Brothers when it played there last year due to it's size, and the sets for Blood Brothers are very small compared with a lot of West End shows.

As for a theatre big enough, the O2, formerly known as "the point" used to take larger shows such as Beauty and the Beast when they came to Ireland, although since it's renovation seems to mostly take concerts. It should take even larger shows now, so I don't see why the big shows won't come over, people would actually come from all over Ireland to see them in most cases and Dublin is certainly big enough as a city to generate a local audience anyway.

As for what shows are coming, we do have High School Musical touring to a few theatres at the moment, including the Gaeity, but I have no interest in it. Also, "Fame" and "Annie" seem to play here every year... why every year I do not know...

yup both correct - the gaity is too small...and yup we had to cut a bit the blood brothers set down before it finally fit in!!

How many people does the Point hold? I just assumed it was a concert venue.

I agree the big shows should come over, definitely a market there, if a suitable house can be found! The Point maybe the answer
