A definitive production of Show Boat
The Threepenny Opera
A production of Jacques Brel with lavish sets and lighting. (I have only seen minimalist productions.) The original French would be nice.
There are others I could mention, but I know they will never be on Broadway because of the original language, ethnic orientation, financial/economic/business considerations.
There are also a few shows which haven't been written yet and should be on Broadway, except perhaps for some of the same considerations.

A lot of the mentioned shows either died deservedly early deaths, or are such recent hits that a "revival" wouldn't make sense. Hey, it took half a century for SOUTH PACIFIC to get back to Broadway!
One hit show that seems to have faded from everyone's memory is the hauntingly melodic IRMA LA DOUCE. It's a terrific star vehicle (a few years ago Vanessa Williams would have been perfect - maybe Sutton Foster?) that is immensely entertaining. If Jerry Mitchell is looking for a new project .....

Am agreeing with the people who said Scarlet Pimpernel.
Also, I must be the only one (also, old): MARTIN GUERRE.

I could do without AIDA for a long while.
I hope NANETTE transfers and I would love to see a revival of RAGTIME although that probably won't happen for another 5-10 years.
And HELLO, DOLLY! needs to be revived.
PS: I miss URINETOWN so much!

Jekyll & Hyde
EVITA
Sunset Blvd.
Beauty and the Beast
Honestly, for Jekyll & Hyde maybe not playing 10 years, but it's the best of Wildhorn's works in my opinion, and it should have run atleast a year longer, if not more. In actuality, they only shut down the Broadway production because they couldn't find a star to be in it (They wantedDonny Osmond, who would have done it reportedly in March of 2001) after Hasselhoff. I think with the right people again it could have really hit off, "again." I mean it wasn't selling fantastic, but shows like Rent and sometimes Chicago (it goes through some bad streches) have been able to last this long, and Jekyll sold 80% of it's tickets in 2000 (it's last full year).
Evita, simply because it's been too long and it's a classic!
With the prices Broadway producers are charging today, Sunset would most likely thrive. Again with the star thing, but I think this could have worked out for a couple more years than it did.
Beauty and the Beast I don't even fully understand. Yes it ran for 13 years and time for change so to say, and so the Beast had been there just as long, but with some minor revisions, Beauty and the Beast especially with TLM opening could have had anther bang. I believe I heard they were closing it because they wanted the Lunt for TLM, but then why'd they close Tarzan? Beast in it's last year sold 85%!
And to those that say Scarlet Pimpernel, as much as I want to agree, I can't because no matter how great the songs, tunes or even the people that are in it, the show overall is boring. Ask any non-Broadway fan who has seen it and I'm sure they'll tell youthe same. I saw the tour in Washington, D.C. and I still thought it was immensely boring, but the songs are so great. Too bad!

Posted: 5/13/08 at 9:13pmEven Alan Menken said that he expected Little Mermaid to get no Tony noms. They realize how bad it is. It will run for 1 1/2-2 years longer, and I hope that "Beauty and the Beast" is the first thing to come back to the Lunt-Fontanne. Wait, would "Beast" fit the Nederlander?

Posted: 5/13/08 at 9:17pmThere not Cameron Macintosh! It won't be back for some time or until like the Lion King/Mary Poppins/the other Disney shows close and they have no where else to go I'm guessing. And the Nederlander...well let's just say the Nederlander is a unique theatre! Look at the thread about the graffitti, etc.!

Beauty and the Beast will never be in the Nederlander because it's not owned by Disney. All the Disney shows are currently playing in theaters owned by Disney.
Back on topic, I think Les Mis should be revived with its FULL ORCHESTRATIONS.
Also:
My Fair Lady
Ragtime
Follies
Company
Assassins
Cinderella
Lil' Abner

ditto A Little Night Music and Evita as well.
Also, after being in it and growing to like it, with some slight revisions I think Steel Pier might be cool to see.

I would love to see "Little Mermaid" come back with
Gabriel Barre or James Lapine directing it
A new book by Howard Ashman (yeah, I know that wont really happen)
Costumes by Susan Hilferty
And Pat Carroll as Ursula
:)
