I remember there being ideas of a shrek musical awhile ago. I dont think it would work IMO.

Movies were cute. I got a good laugh out of them. Yet i have a feeling that depend on how it is done it would end up being on the list of one of our more popular threads "Worst Musical Ever"

Isn't Sam Mendes in some way involved? I think his new production company Scamp might be behind it or I might have dreamt it.

This is old news. They talked about this when the first movie came out.

I think this got dumped after the DVD came out. But they just decided to do Shrek 3 and a "Puss In Boots" movie spin-off, so anything could happen with the Shrek franchise now.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Id much rather see a tap dancing ogre than a tap dancing web slinger in a skin tight red costume.

I'd much rather see a tap-dancing green ogre than a flying green woman singing a 3rd-rate Schwartz tune.

Funny how no one screams about Wicked capitalizing on its Wizard of Oz connections, but protests heartily whenever any other movie-to-musical adaptation is proposed.

I heard about this awhile ago... It was in my sister's "National Geographic for Kids" magazine. I think that the movie was great, but I can't see it as a musical.

The music ignites the night with passion and fire. The narration crackles and pops with incendiary wit.- Rent My name is Miranda, and I have a Godspell problem.

Plum- Wicked wasnt a direct copy of WIZARD OF OZ. It was a prequel. It was really nothing close to the Wizard of Oz. Just an idea stemmed from it. Shrek will be the same exact plot line as the movie with music thrown in. They cant be compared.

Just a thought: If Donkey starts singing about parfaits and Shrek sings about onions, Im outta there.

Yes, and Wizard Of Oz was a movie musical. I'd LOVE Moulin Rouge on Broadway, though it may be hard to top the movie.

I think a Spider-Man musical or a Batman musical would work out great. Shrek can work too, but I don't like the storyline of the film. It's gonna be INTO THE WOODS GONE WRONG.

That thread a few weeks ago pointed out that there have been some really bad ideas for musicals that worked out very well. Dont judge something before you have seen it.

Meat Loaf should play Shrek. I believe they were searching for songwriters... Not really sure if it's over yet. But I'll find out though
