I think Shuler is also in the Zorro sequel... playing a Pinkerton agent if memory serves.

I thought his Jud was excellent. Jud really gave me the creeps. His diatrabe to Laurey at the party made me feel very uncomfortable, almost as though he was threatening me. But when he sang Lonely Room, I almost felt sorry for the character.

He was in Van Helsing last year with Hugh Jackman - he played Frankenstein.

Sandra, when did he play Sweeney Todd? His website mentions that he really wants to play the part but doesn't mention any past performance.

I read this in his bio of the playbill in Kennedy Center Regina. It is a regional production. If you are interested, I will check it later.

i need to correct my earlier post---the second "extended dance sequence" in Act One of OKLAHOMA is usually "Many a New Day" and not "Out of My Dreams." The latter leads into the Dream Ballet itself.

BWAY BABY, i remember now you saying that you went to Shorter. Hensley was in undergrad at UGA in Athens, but i'm not sure if he actually graduated or not. So him filming a Georgia-based movie would make a lot of sense; i don't know if he was from Georgia originally or just attended Athens from out of state.

I think you are correct on that! I wanna say that he is from GA too but I could be wrong. I think he did go to UGA. I really hope the movie will pick back up, I would love to be an extra in it.

LOVE his recordings of The Phantom of the Opera, from the German production. He's dynamite! A friend brought back some ALW highlights CDs from German productions, and "Music of the night" and "Phantom of the Opera" are featured, and he sounds great!

Thanks for bringing that up, I should load those on my mp3 player.

Oh, and I thought Shuler was great on Law and Order, too!:)

He was the only reason I caught that episode..I find all those "ripped from the headlines" shows too depressing. He was great.

B'WAY BABY did you see (or be an extra in) REMEMBER THE TITANS, which was filmed at least partially near your school? i'm pretty sure it was filmed at the other small college near Rome (not Shorter), as i recognized the water wheel mill and the former dining hall (is that complex called the Ford Buildings, because he donated them to the school)?

i also recall that college (why can't i remember the name?!?!) had a pretty good theatre program with an interesting performance building and a strong music program too---in fact, i think it was once a Music Conservatory. Is Shorter still one? is the other school still strong? that's a beautiful part of the country.

Hey TxTwoStep!
I was actually a 9th grader when Remember the Titans came out. Wow that seems so long ago. I wasn't an extra in it but it was a lot of it was filmed in my county at different football stadiums and 2 of our high school cheerleaders were cheerleaders in the movie.
Another film that has been shot in Rome is Sweet Home Alabama! The whole street party scene was shot on our famous Broad St and my theory teacher was in the crappy deleted alternate ending where he was the orchestra leader and had some pretty decent shots of him.

The school is Berry College, my mom went there as a matter of fact and they filmed the dorm she stayed in for RTT! Their theatre program is ok, they just added a musical theatre dept which isn't pretty strong. I saw Fiddler there last fall, it was pretty awful sad to say. I don't know much about their music dept but I hear it's not good either. Berry has great facilities and even has a great costume dept that Shorter lacks greatly due to low budget and their theatre and sets are pretty amazing. Performance aspect is pretty poor sad to say, they don't have good training there which is sad because there are some talented people there. Maybe it used to be good. But Berry is beautiful and the biggest college in the USA in square miles of forests.
Shorter is not a conservatory but a liberal arts private college. We are known for having great reputations in theatre and music. We have won several awards for ACTF for 2 years, boith years making to the semi finals for our shows Jekyll and Hyde and this year West Side Story. At state and regions NATS, the most people who place in the categories are from Shorter and we put on amazing shows and have the best training probably in the Southeast. For a small college we are widely known. I feel pretty lucky to be there.
It's amazing how much you know about GA. Are you from here? re: Shuler Hensley on SVU

i just have a lot of friends in Atlanta, and used to travel/backpack with them around the state. i love Broad Street---is that pizza place still there? it seemed like the hangout for a lot of college kids and had a great patio out back where in the summer they'd show movies like BEACH BLANKET BINGO on the brick wall. i also remember a pretty good live jazz club downtown. Love that clock tower, and the Berry buildings, but i don't recall the Shorter campus that much (it's right downtown, isn't it?). i did see PIPPIN "back in the day" at Shorter, but i think it was staged in the TV studio and not the main theatre. i also remember reading about them doing THE GRASS HARP a while ago, a piece that really intrigues me.

The best part about Berry, if i remember right and am not confusing it with someplace else, was the mountain campus (i think that's what they called it). It had some really old stone buildings from the very start of the school, and most recently had been a private boarding high school, and then Chick-Fil-A had taken it over as a training center affiliated with the more modern Berry campus down the "hill." i also remember the college founder had a house very high on the mountain---is it called Lavender Mountain? a kind of stone cabin, but huge, that we hiked to---apparently she took donors (like Henry Ford) up there for the view and kinda persuaded them to give to her school. Her family's home is beautiful too, i remember it was very antebellum in style and had a terrific little museum of her life nearby. A pretty amazing place, overall.

i loved Rome. But i could have sworn both Shorter and Berry had music conservatories at one point, before they became departments and joined the liberal arts colleges there now. Does Berry still have the festival where the students dress in clothes similar to the original college uniforms and march down a hill?!?!?

Again, that is such an amazing part of the country, with such a rich heritage.

I don't think there's a pizza parlor there anymore! Sad times! Actually the only theatre at Shorter is the old tv studio, we just turned it into a black box. When we do a huge show we use one of the theatres in Rome. I wish we had the fundings to get a proscenuim stage. But we make do in the black box. Yea it's Lavendar Mountain. It is so beautiful I love going through there and watch the deer, there's like tons of deer everywhere on that campus! I don't know if they do the whole uniform thing, I'm sure they do.
A breakthrough at Shorter is happening next year. We are getting a football team next year! Grrrrrrr! I'm glad Shorter is using their money wisely on athletics over the arts, when we are in desperate need of things. I love Shorter because of the arts program, but the school irritates me sometimes.

that pizza joint might have been called Schroeder's. They had great sandwiches and really cheap pitchers. The Berry museum had pictures of the festival, with all these college students in pink and blue walking down the hill hand in hand.

i think i saw the Rome Little Theatre (or maybe municipal auditorium) from the outside, but didn't get to go in. Doesn't Shorter even have a recital hall?!?!? though i love black boxes. i remember the deer at the Berry campus, and also cows, and thereflecting pools in the Ford complex. i don't think they had a football team, either, but lotsa soccer fields and they were just building a baseball diamond.

Oh yeah Schroeders! I love that place! It's cheap and yummy!
I'm sorry we actually do have a recital hall called Brooke's Chapel and we actually had to do Arcadia in there recently because West Side got passed on to ACTF so we had to move our shows around and in order to do Honk! and Arcadia at the same time, Arcadia built their set in the chapel while we're rehearsing for Honk! in Callaway Theatre. Berry isn't allowed to have a football team ever. Martha Berry wrote that in her will. We may excel in the arts here at Shorter but Berry's sport teams beat the crap out of ours! lol!

Could you give me some detail about Shuler's performance in POTO? I am desperate looking for this.

By the way, could you check my pm.

Thank you very much.

Timmerbo

I double checked my playbill. My mistake. It said he played in Sweeney Todd but didnot say he played that role.

Sorry.

sanda - No worries, I really hope he does play the part sometime. I really can't think of any actor right now who'd be better.

And I really really really want to hear his Phantom too. Ever since hearing Anthony Warlow I've prefered baritones in the role, but I've never heard a bass-baritone sing it (albeit one with a huge range).
