Any news if she was back in the show tonight? i know she was out yesterday. Seeing the show tomorrow and praying Amy is there and well :)
My friend was there tonight and texted me before the show that Amy was out.
Carol Channing or Ethel Merman never missed a preview
But Amy is prettier than them.
I hear she blew her voice out Tuesday night.
tHE SCORE DOES NOT SEEM THAT DIFFICULT TO ME
BUT HEY sH*T HAPPENS

Completely incoherent.
Anyhow, somebody post when you hear she's back in - my boyfriend really wants to see this show, and I want him to see Amy, she's one of my favorites.
When I was there last night, I heard some people saying she was out because of her throat. Whether that's true or not, I don't know, just passing along second or possibly third hand knowledge.
She and Finley both sing the hell out of everything, and push push push, which is thrilling to watch but can screw up the voice quickly. Perhaps it was because I attended press night, but when I saw Spanger in Seattle, she had so much energy and voice it was jaw-dropping to watch. I'm not shocked if she is having a mini crash from all of the go go go.
Saw the show tonight...Cara Cooper was absolutely phenomenal, especially for only her second time in the role. She's gorgeous (looks alot like Christine Taylor, from the movie), and she's got a gorgeous voice, and was really really fantastic. However, I'm very much looking forward to going back and seeing Amy. I was talking to an acquaintance of mine in the ensemble, and he said "Cara's amazing, but Amy is RIDICULOUS in that role....you HAVE to come back and see her when she's better..." Soooo yah, hopefully she'll be back soon!

she might simply be having an allergy attack or a cold..she didn't necessarily BLOW her voice out just from singing..it doesn't matter how "easy" a role is..if you're sick, you're sick.
just sayin....
amy is really strong and isn't known for missing shows...i am sure she'll be back as soon as she can!!! she is awesome!
I hope Amy gets well soon! However, I saw Cara Cooper as Natalie in ASU and she's a good singer as well - I'd love to see her!
I did not think that the understudy was vocally up to this on Wednesday nite. Her scenes were fine, but her big number on the ladder in the second act was pretty off key because she was oversinging it. Glad to know that it was her first nite, so there is time to improve. Sorry I missed Spanger.
I went into the show with pretty low expectations.. and LOVED it. I remembered Steven Lynch from comedy central a few years ago, was looking forward to him and enjoyed him very much. He was not Adam Sandler, and that didnt bother me at all . I must also admit that I didnt think Laura Benanti was too bad. Her voice was MUCH more pop (and better) then I expected. I do wish she was a bit quikier, and didnt love ALL of her acting choices, but i was plesently suprised by her. Felicia Finley was brilliant, and hot. Loved some of her moves. Amy Spanger's understudy (name here?) really blew me away, expecially because I was so disappointed that Amy was out. Any performer must admit that she has her **** together for an understudy. I doubt she was given much rehearsal attention with the show in previews, and she was right on. Her voice was great, she looked PERFECT and danced the **** out of it. Actually the best "actress" on tonight. I did not love granny. I didnt believe she was old. I also really didnt care for the dance break during the rap, but I will not spoil anything.
So there is my disjointed re-preview. The show was disguestingly- and perfect for what it should be. Was much more an 80's parody then I imagined... and the theatre jokes were countless!
You didn't believe the Granny was old? Unless you saw a young understudy, she IS old! The Granny is played by Rita Gardner. Here are some of her credits, and she was in the original cast of the Fantasticks in 1960!

Well, I'm sure Rita Gardner loves being called OLD....
But, yes, she was over 30 when she created the role of the girl in THE FANTASTICKS, so she's definitely age appropriate for the role.
Shes doesnt read as old as they want her to. Her wig and costume wold have looked the same on a 15 year old. Looks very fake.

That might be the point, newsieboy. That everything is a little bit larger than life and a little exaggerated as it does seem to be in the show.
Funny. Spanger's still out. And everyone's been talking about Benanti?
Amy Spanger's understudy (name here?)
Cara Cooper! She was really, really impressive when I saw her Thursday. I mean, I fully plan on going back so I can see Amy, but I thought Cara was fantastic, especially since Thursday was only her second performance!
