I agree however I'll take a musical based on a movie adaptation over another revival any day. With the multi million dollar cost to mount a musical these days, I think most producers want to be assured an audience identification with a popular movie title rather than risk financing an original work. It's unfortunate but most likely true.I would also think the advance box office take on a show based on a popular movie would also be much more lucrative then something with an unknown title.

I don't care what a musical is adapted from, just as long as it's done right. ANd for the most part, movie musicals have been pretty sucessful so I can't complain. As I said in past posts, I'd love to see adaptions of Down With Love and the tv version of Rigoletto, not the opera! They would rock like a boulder!
YES! I am sick of a lot of those...but mostly because they're stupid ideas. I really prefer original musicals- but mostly it's important that a musical be well conceived. legally Blonde doesn't sound good... at all ...*shudders* but you never know. I mean, Jeckyll and Hyde should have been better than it was from the basic subject matter, although it was fine... and Bombay Dreams should have been much better! My goodness!

First Wives Club would make a great musical. It would be a great oppurtunity for the older Broadway actresses to have some great roles.
