Spent a good part of the weekend converting video tapes onto dvd, and came across Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner as the Hilton's on Rosie. Made me remember how much I loved "Side Show." And it is very poignant now to see Jason Raize singing "Endless Night."
Man, I miss Rosie. She was as important in promoting broadway as Ed Sullivan was. I'm glad I have something like 9 videos filled with performances.
I loved that show. And yet, (fill in the blank with show of choice), that piece of crap, runs and runs.

Rosie should make a DVD of all the Broadway performances she had on her show.

OMG if she made the dvd and you died you wouldn't be able to even see it and the rest of us would be so sad we wouldn't be able to watch it in our grief.
Namo, you're the top.
Namo, I think I like your pic better than my own! I'm gonna die!

I was in In Touch magazine. In what capacity I shall not reveal!
But anyway, back to Rosie, I love my happy memories of the performances on that show. Side Show was a highlight and I liked Titanic way more than I thought I would.
I forgot she had so many, when I was going through the tapes. Heck, she even had on "The Scarlet Pimpernel" - with a mini set singing "You Are My Home."
I also would love a best of dvd - even as I am making my own!
Caroline Rhea tried to carry on the tradition, but unfortunately her show just didn't have the same magic as Rosie's. Hopefully someday someone else will come along and take over.
I'm surprised Rosie hasn't done something like that already. Maybe as one of her Charity fundraisers and sell it through BCEFA, but again, I guess all those rules and regulations would probably apply here also. That would absolutely be phenomenal. I'm really sorry I didn't save all those performances from her show.

I have no new information to add, except that I love Rosie. She refueled my love of Broadway.

Rosie first exposed me to Broadway. I thank her for that lol. I, too, miss her show.
Okay get ready for a sappy Side Show story.
When I was in fourth grade Side Show was my favorite show and when I heard it was closing I was extremely upset. I wrote the cast a long letter telling them how much I enjoyed the show and how sad I was. Emily Skinner wrote back including an autograph and a long handwritten letter saying the cast had enjoyed my letter. I wrote back and for the next few months we wrote eachother. She gave me news about the show and the efforts to get it going on tour. It meant the world to me, and I've been following her career ever since. Just had to share that story about Emily, she's just a very nice person.
Yeah, Rosie did promote Broadway. She saved TITANIC. And cynical posts aside, she could put out a helluva dvd of the b'way numbers on her show. I think I have "Who Will Love Me As I Am" on tape from her show, too. She reprised all of the musical clips during her final week of shows. The range was quite interesting, from mega-hits like LION KING to mega-flops like SEUSSICAL--which, I know, she appeared in.
Controvery, thy name is Rosie. She's a gal people love to hate: She has been reviled, revered, married in SF, sued, an advocate of gay adoption (the Florida debacle she's worked hard to remedy) and of late, she put a big chunk of change into Larry Kramer's NORMAL HEART to try and keep it going. Plus, her program to introduce theater to NY kids who have never seen a broadway show is another case of someone putting their money where their mouth is. And her mouth is huge. I think she's an amazing American success story: a poor kid from LI who grows up to be an award winning talk show host-advocate-producer-out and vocal lesbian. Yeah, she's not exactly easy ... but my feeling, always: cut this woman some slack. Hey, she doesn't just BS -- she really does stuff. And on her show, some 30 kids god college scholarships thanks to Kellogs or Post joining forces. In supporting entrepreneurs, I'll take Rosie over Donald Trump anytime.

Yes.
A very sweet person.
(This is so random, but I'm watching 42nd St. and I had forgotten HOW much Bebe Daniels looks like Bebe Neuwirth....)
Well if this isn't a walk down memory lane.
Relating to Alice Ripley and Rosie,
I found my tape of Time Warp live from the Rosie O'Donnell show. The first time I saw Raul Esparza! I haven't been the same since...
side show is my favorie show in the entire world, along with last five years. it is the MOST amazing show ever
The Rosie's show is what convinced me to go see Side Show. I have to admit the subject matter didn't really appeal to me, but then I saw the performance on Rosie, and I had to go see it. It's now still one of my favorite shows. I too have it on tape somewhere.

Love the icon, bwaybaby.
Side Show still remains my favorite show but only because it holds a special place in my heart. I by no means think its the 'best' show... I think it needs major revisions lyrically and plot wise.
The talent in the original cast made up for that little bump in the road.
(Ooo... who's seeing Norm Lewis in Ragtime? I think I may take a road trip. I LOVE HIM.)
