re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#26
Posted: 10/23/08 at 5:58pmIs it confirmed that Sierra is involved with this project? I don't remember reading this casting rumor before.

>>No, Wishing is referencing the ending in the 2004 Phantom movie...<<
Ah see, there we go. The movie. I felt like walking out when the Chandelier didn't fall when it was suppose to.

Posted: 10/23/08 at 6:04pmIt's not totally shocking. She was Christine in "Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular", remember?
re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#29
Posted: 10/23/08 at 6:05pmWeren't they making a big deal about courting Sarah Brightman to reprise her role as Christine? Guess that didn't pan out?

So I assume ALW figured out how to keep his cat from deleting the score ... again...
I wish I were making this up, but Otto - the kitty that got inside the piano and did us all a favour - was shortly afterwards tragically mown down in a car parking accident. If I didn't find the death of a kitty heart-breakingly sad, I'd make some kind of joke about the suspicious circumstances.

I hope that Otto has an appropriate tombstone, something along the lines of -
Never in the field of human theatre going was so much owed by so many to so few.

If they have the cast whizzing about on heelies I might be tempted to see the show...
"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"

wdw, Sierra is with Mermaid until May 2009.
The only place I've heard "The Heart is Slow to Learn" is Annelene Beechey's website, annalenebeechey.com. Go to Recordings. It's towards the bottom under Live Recordings.

Posted: 10/24/08 at 12:09pmYou haven't heard Kiri te Kanawa's version?
re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#35
Posted: 10/24/08 at 1:43pmI didn't even know there was gonna be a concept recording.
re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#36
Posted: 10/24/08 at 2:03pmWhat exactly is the sequel about? I've HEARD that Christine and Raul come to NYC to open the new opera house, and the Phantom follows them - oh, and Christine and Raul apparently have a young child... is this factual in any way?
re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#37
Posted: 10/24/08 at 2:43pmWow, he recycled "The Heart is Slow to Learn" from "The Beautiful Game" and a song called "Our Kind of Love." While I personally love "The Beautiful Game" score couldn't he write something new for "Phantom 2?" I truly hope he can pull this one off.
re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#38
Posted: 10/24/08 at 3:20pm^Thank you! I could totally tell it was a recycled melody. I guess that means "Our Kind of Love" was cut from The Beautiful Game/The Boys in the Photograph...?

You guys have the cart before the donkey.
The Heart is slow to learn was written years ago, before Beautiful Game. Then he abandoned the idea of the sequel and used that song in Beautiful Game.
It is not a new song and is not in the Sequel.
Hence it being performed at his 50th b'day (wasnt that like 10 years back?)
re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#40
Posted: 10/27/08 at 3:24pmIs there a source for Sierra Boggess's involvement and for the rumor of a concept recording?

The story of the concept recording was broken (I believe) in an interview with the Lord in the newspaper known as the Daily Fa... uh, Mail. Which, for all its bad points, tends to err on the side of accurate when it comes to theatre gossip and news. I'll see if I can hunt down the article for you, but I hate the paper with a vengeance, so I'm making no promises.

He wrote "The Heart is Slow to Learn" years ago, it made a debut at his 50th birthday bash which you can get on dvd. If memory serves, after initial plans for Phantom 2 were scrapped he reused the melody for something else instead, but the man is guilty of self plagiarism all over the place, so it may resurface here anyway.
I am a fan of a lot of his work. I love Evita and JCS, and Phantom will always be a favorite since it was one of the first shows I was introduced to 20 years ago at the tender age of 5, but lately he has churned a lot of crap, and sequels typically suck. I don't see this working.

Edward Baker-Duly (last seen as Ashley Wilkes in GONE WITH THE WIND THE MUSICAL) is the Phantom. Ramin Karimloo is Raoul.
EDIT: I may have these backwards - either way, they're your two leading men.

re: Sierra Boggess & Phantom Sequel#46
Posted: 10/29/08 at 9:46amI think you've chosen the correct two actors in the male leads but it's the other way around. Ramin apparently is pegged to play the Phantom. Although, I have no concrete evidence of this as I asked him at stage door and he played the "don't know what you're talking about" card. lol

If ALW taps you to sing Row Row Row Your Boat you go do it. He's ALW for Heaven's sake.
And anyone who says they wouldn't do it, is lying.
