Simon Cowell gets stung

"Rock star Sting has called the X Factor televised karaoke"

Oh Baby!

"and said judges like Simon Cowell have no recognisable talent apart from self-promotion".

Lay it on me.

"The singer told London's Evening Standard that the Saturday night show was a soap opera which has nothing to do with music".

Give me your load:

re: Simon Cowell gets stung

It basically is televised karaoke. The show doesn't make stars either. Most acts that come out the other side of it are laughed at and find that they can never be taken seriously. Audiences seem to have no respect for the contestants once the show is over. Let's face it: the real stars are the judges, they're the ones we'll go back to see next year and they're the ones who will hang on to their fame.

If you want to be a singer, I really do think that working your way from the ground up building a faithful audience is far better in the long run than winning the fleeting overnight stardom of a reality show and the large but fickle audience that comes with it.

I'm pretty sure Leona is doing all right for herself... Will Young wasn't too bad... JLS will be around for a while. I think the amount of contestants that we've seen over the years make you jump to the judgement that they're all laughed at etc. In fact without X Factor we might not have got the talents of Leona, Alexandra etc. I think it's wrong to just dismiss it for this reason alone. It's entertaining, it gives people something to talk about and a lot of people aren;t as fortunate as some of us to be exposed to theatre and certainly don't have the cash for it. I say leave it alone and enjoy it for what it is.

re: Simon Cowell gets stung

Have been watching in amusement all week at work as people hotly debabte whether or not they'll be watching after the 'outrage' of last week. It's not my thing (I prefer listening to singers who can sing!) but it's keeping people entertained and let's not forget keeping people in jobs (and I mean all those people working behind the scenes etc not just simon cowell's personal fake tan assistant)

Still not sure how this vacuous popularity contest has fooled people for so long. Besides keeping Chicago supplied with cast members, it's hard to see the point in so much manufactured drama. Except the millions of pounds it generates for the man behind it of course... :)

Most of these you'll be seeing in pantos across the UK in a few years!

re: Simon Cowell gets stung

I must agree with Beergoggles. Television shows like The X Factor help to launch careers for many performers where a platform may not have ever existed for them. Christina Aguilera, Destiny's Child, Sutton Foster, Dave Chappelle, Rosie O'Donnell, Alanis Morissette, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Usher all appeared on Star Search before anyone knew who they were. Let's also not forget that Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson got their start from American Idol.

Despite all the over-the-top hype, I have to admit that I find the X-Factor totally compulsive viewing - one of the few TV programmes I simply will not miss. And, though I was horrified at Lucy's departure last week, I will be glued to the screen again tonight!

And Simon Cowell's a ****-cat really LOL.

Mama, I did not type **** - it seems that the moderators censored my copy. For god's sake what the hell is wrong with these people? How can a word for a cat be in any way objectionable?

re: Simon Cowell gets stung

The major irony of this nonsense is that, by their automated censoring they are actually turning what was an innocent and innocuous word and highlighting it as innuendo!

And poor old Tom Jones will now have to sing What's New ****cat? How will he get his tongue round that? LOL

re: Simon Cowell gets stung

At Priscilla last night Jason Donavon done a announcement at the end of the show, to raise money for Children in Need, Jason said "We are collecting money for Children in Need to help people like John and Edward" the gag somewhat backfired when a chorus of boo's and hisses went round The Palace Theatre, I said nothing, the reason why 23 hours later the gag made sense, I was racking my brain after the show, thinking of the news and royal family having a Edward but no John, the crux of the story is you can see how up to date I am with The X factor.

I was told tonight that they are doing 'Blood Brothers' in Dublin next year for 6 weeks.

re: Simon Cowell gets stung

I liked Rhydian (another scary-haired X factor contestant but one who could actually sing) on Children in Need when asked about J&E 'Well it's not their fault they're still in'

Pretty much sums it up! Mama how was your first X factor experience? I have to ask permission to speak if it's on, and have learned saturday evenings are not the time for long phone conversations!
