Singer/Songwriters who should have turned to Broadway#1

I have been in a very random music mood this week, and ended up listening to a lot of K.T. Oslin on the iPod this week. She was a Country Music singer who didn't get her big break until she was 46 in 1987. Her big hit was a song called 80's Ladies. The music she wrote was very theatrical, story songs mostly, but she could also write a killer balad. Her style made total sense to me when I found out years later that she had lived in NYC most of her adult life and gotten work in commercials and Broadway ensembles. Her career didn't last very long, she had some health problems and the Nashville music scene was not going to invest a lot of publicity on someone who was by then in her 50's. I always wondered why she never tried her hand at composing for the Musical Theatre. I think she would have been great.

Any other great singer/songwritters that come to mind that could have done some great broadway work?

Check out one her big hit
