Hey-our school is doing Singin' In The Rain for the fall musical, and I was curious as to what the differences are from the movie to the musical. I understand the 2 are very similar. On stage, are there more tap songs? Are there more/less characters? Is any of the plot different? Basically just things like that. Also-if anyone can answer this, you get a 5 point bonus. Is there an Original Broadway Cast recording of the show? I haven't found anything but the movie recording. Thanks!

There was never a Broadway cast recording. There is a London Cast recording with Tonmmy Steele.
The show is exactly like the movie - same songs, same characters. The only change I've ever seen is that the diction teacher who does the "Moses Supposes" scene with Don and Cosmo can be a man or a woman.

I saw a very good production of SITR, and it was EXACTLY how I remembered the movie.
Yes, they are virtually identical, including the use of the film choreography in the stage version as I recall.

Really? That's the only difference? That movie was so corny!
rice and beans, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are kidding...
Ugh, I LOVE this movie. I could watch it all day...
Gene Kelly.... ahhhhh.

I actually liked the way it was EXACTLY the same.
Once, many years ago, at a question and answer session with Gene Kelly, I asked him if he had seen the stage version and, if so, what he thought of it.
He said that he had, and though he ought to be flattered by the almost exact copy of the film, he wished the stage version had tried for something new. He said he understood, though, that people wanted to see the film on stage.

I can see both sides of the coin. On one hand, whats the point of doing something if you are copying it?, but on the other, why mess with something so successful?
Yes, that is exactly what I felt he understood and was expressing.

Who knows? Maybe years down the line a new revival will pop-up...
rice and beans,
saying "singin' in the rain" is "corny" is sacreligious!
i saw the 1985 Broadway version with Faye Grant, she was hilarious as "Lina Lamont"

Wow, Lina...what a great character. You can do so much with it! I absolutely loved the diction teacher scene with Lina in the movie! (I just watched the movie for the first time 2 or 3 days ago):

Lina has her own song in the stage show that was not in the movie
