Sisters, rejoice...

...the West End has its newest HIT show.

Just back from "Sister Act" - sweet baby Jesus! - in three words - FAB U LOUS!

* In my opinion the strongest score since "The Producers"
* Contains the cleverest, wittiest lyrics I've heard in ages
* All round great performances - Patina Miller is a star! I'd love to see her in "Dreamgirls"
* The scenery is stunning
* It gives "Priscilla" a run for its money

I went along with no excitement and zero expectations but I was totally blown away by it. Do yourself a huge favour and hurry to the London Palladium.

re: Sisters, rejoice...

I agree 100%
but Cilla is still the girl for me.

re: Sisters, rejoice...

I'm one of those lucky people who had their MJ concert postponed to March 2010. With a flight and hotel accommodations already booked, I didn't know what to fill this empty night with. I'm glad I got my ticket to Sister Act and cannot wait to see it.

Amen. I was so anti this show, but I've seen the light, and I can't wait to go again.

Whole heartily agree with everything that has been said so far.

You can't be serious? I thought the score for The Producers sounded as though it came out of a musical comedy sausage factory.

Just been spending time dissecting the main thread on here.

Sister Act did not get universal acclaim by the hacks, but seemed to get a unanimous thumbs up by our BWW gang on here.

'Well I really enjoyed the production. The audience were really up for it.'
Nick Hudson

'A great show that is 100 times better than I ever expected.'
Mama

'fanF***KINGTASTIC!'
Bob8Rich

'Simply the best new musical London has had in 2009'
Phantom

'initially after all the talk of top price tickets for £19.50! But it in no way reduced the enjoyment. the audience absolutely loved it and it's clearly gonna do well.'
Boybobshka

'I totally underestimated this show. The score is fantastic - classic Menken.'
Boy from Oz

'I loved every minute of it.'
Lovepigeon

'Saw this on Tuesday night and absolutely LOVED it.'
Mark_E

'all I can is... WOW! It's an AMAZING show!'
ruthiefan_felix

'I'd definitely recommend this show: it's great fun, Patina Miller is a real find and the score is divine'
TIGGOSAURUS

'Just back from "Sister Act" - sweet baby Jesus! - in three words - FAB U LOUS!'

re: Sisters, rejoice...

Surely this show is bound to do well? It's mainstream family-friendly fare with a great score and some excellent performances, not to mention the recognition it'll get from its source material (no matter how much/little it draws from it).

I will be seeing it again, but I just can't warm to it as much as I did to Hairspray and Priscilla after my first encounter with each of them. They're timeless to me... re: Sisters, rejoice...

As for Mama's comment above: "Cilla is still the girl for me" - as one who has never really understood Ms Black's popular appeal, please say you meant the bus and the musical surrounding it, not anyone else who might be compared to any part of one?! :-p

Seen some shows in my time....

I was thinking the same thing TIGG, especially after seeing an opening night vid of Sister Act on YouTube and she (Cilla Black, not the bus) appeared.
