So I went to see the new Cy Coleman/ Alan and Marilyn Berman musical "Like Jazz" here at the Taper in Los Angeles. Well about 10 minutes before curtain there were only 4 empty seats in my row and they were right next to me. My lover and I had our noses in our programs when all of a sudden we get a polite "excuse us". I get up to let the people getting to their seats through and I find myself face to face with the stunningly gorgeous James Brolin followed by Barbra Streisand. Oh my god. They sat right next to us. They seemed very nice and really into the show. What was weird was how other people (probably even us) behaved towards them. These abnoxious older ladies kept walking by our section just trying to get a better look . People behind us kept saying to each other : did you see her? did you see her? I myself buried my nose in the program till the show started and then found myself trying to catch glimpses of their reaction to the show ( I was trying not too. but how could I not?) My lover pointed out the people on their other side as Alan and Marilyn Berman. In front of them was Andrea Martin with Walter Bobbie. Pat Birch ( coreographr of the show as well as coreographer of the movie grease) was sitting right behind us. By the way; if you have ever gone to the Taper.. then you know it is small and in the semi round. So if theres anyone in the audience you know.. they are pretty hard to miss.
Oh and the show? Needs alot of work but fun enough. Oh what the hell.. I think I need to see it again and actually pay attention to what was going on the stage. :)
