So...Wicked opens in Chicago on Friday

What are the odds of it actually opening Friday? I bought tickets off of eBay and will make a 4 hour drive to the theater. The pessimist in me says the odds are stacked against me and the 1st preview will be cancelled. I hope I'm wrong!

Why would it be cancelled?

A techie friend told me the move from Toronto would be a tight squeeze. Wasn't the first Toronto preview cancelled as well?

The first Toronto preview was cancelled due to Stephanie's injury.

I would expect it to be a tight move though. The set seemed pretty elaborate for a tour that moves in 5 days. But, tours do it all the time!

Check out the thread...
"Wicked Tour says "bye-bye for now" to Toronto"
It has some tour reviews.

Also check out the tour website for reviews.

My personal opinion...
I saw the Saturday (4/23) matinee and this tour is perfection, with one exception... Fiyero.

Having seem the OBC 2 times, this tour was a great surprise. Stephanie's voice seemed richer that Idina's (and do not get me wrong I thought Idina's was excellent) But, Stephanie had tone that was much more understandable and she sang through the notes, she did not overdo them. Kendra was very good although I thought Kristin gave a bit more personality to the role. David equalled Joel. Carol Kane was brilliant - much better than Carole Shelley. Jenna Leigh and Logan.. Wow! Derrick Williams left little to be desired though! I thought he was very weak with little chemistry. Some of our friends, who saw the show for the first time with us, commented about him being the worst part of the show.
They should seriously consider recasting the part!

Overall, we thought this cast is an equal to the OBC. They have a lot to be proud of and hopefully will bring delight to many parts of the country. Get your tickets today!

For this cast, in Chicago, there are no more tickets. I searched for single seats and found a couple spots where one ticket was left, there were no pairs for the tour cast.

Once Ana Gasteyer and the sitdown production officially starts I hope some nice Chicago resident will give us a full review. I really hope she eventually does the role in NYC.

metoog, I have heard nothing BUT negative reviews for Derrick Williams. I never like to see people lose their jobs but the overwhelming consensus seems to be that he's not right for the role. I wonder if producers are aware of the lack of enthusiasm, for lack of a stronger statement, he's received. Or maybe they simply don't care since it's a tour that will sell well regardless of the reviews? At any rate, I'll see the show on Friday and weigh in with my thoughts then.
