Posted: 12/24/05 at 12:12pmWe used to have a summer show, and after opening night the entire cast, still in makeup and all wearing show shirts, would go to Friendly's (for those non-east coasters its a little ice cream and fast food place) and take it by storm. The management would always have to throw us out eventually because there were like 50 kids in stage makeup storming their restuarant and pushing tables together and ruining the actual guest's meals. One time they wouldn't let us in because they knew we were coming, so my sister broke down crying saying "I JUST WANTED TO HAVE MY BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!!!" and they were forced to let us all in.

Anyways, we had a pretty crazy crew last year so everyone was just singing to random people and acting crazy. I think we almost got kicked out that time too right kristen? hahah.

We had one rehearsal that involved set painting as well. We all went to the mall in our crappy clothing covered with paint and with it in our hair and everything. Keep in mind, when you give high school kids buckets of paint things get a little wild. There was a massive paint fight before the mall. We got there, shopped, got the dirtiest looks and then went home. We took the subway home and had a mini vocal rehearsal on the train.
On weekend rehearsals, if we got out before it was too late, we'd walk to a nearby park and goofed off. We played on the playground, played basketball, and just acted like losers.
Another time, most of the cast came to my house (15 kids...two cars...fun) and wrote a song for our director that we sang on closing night. It wound up being all of us talking s**t about everyone, gossipping, and singing all day long.
For regular rehearsals, my best friend and I would stand on the stage and sing to each other or belt out random songs. Then we'd go home and sit in the car and talk for an hour. Great times...

Posted: 12/24/05 at 3:02pmThe theatre we do our shows at is right down town, on the square, and it is kind of tradition that in between matinee and evening we would go out on to the square and do little impromptu performances and earn a little cash, haha. We would also get some last minute ticket sales then too!

Posted: 12/24/05 at 5:59pmI did summer stock one year out on Long Island. The main theatre's airconditioning condensation runoff went into an old swimming pool, that leaked. At night it would fill up and then drain away by the next day. After rehearsals or shows we would dive into the COLD water and swim. Some would skinny dip. Of course no one was allowed in there, but we didn't care. We were hot, tired and had worked our butts off, so we felt entitled. Ah the memories...

Hasn't anyone ever told you not to eat or drink in costume! (And a milkshake!! Lol)
And I don't know how so many people can go out w/out taking their stage make-up off. Not that I'd care going out in make-up, but you can feel it filling the pores after a while.

I just finished my first Christopher Durang show and I always needed either caffeine or some soup after rehearsal. Either I was so tired from the physicality and intensity of it all or my voice was raw from some sort of psychotic episode onstage. Eep.
During "Les Mis" we ate a lot of pizza.

In grade school, head to George's and watch Real World.
In high school, head out to the Square...Baker-Style.
Now in college, head out to Espesso Royale for coffee or Murphy's Pub if it's a Monday.
Not very exciting or funny upon reading it, but we had/have a blast.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 7:05pmfood afterwards is always fun. closer to the show, after one of the rehearsals, almost the whole cast went out for pizza. (I was Dr Bayliss in Arthur Miller's All My Sons at my high school.) There is this dumb senior game 'Assassins' where many of the seniors form groups and have to try to 'kill' all of the other groups with water guns. The student director was with us at pizza, and he was a senior, and just as we were sitting down to eat, a bunch of guys ran in and got us all wet... they broke the rules, yes (you can't shoot people INSIDE of public places), but it was nonetheless quite fun.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 9:41pmThere's an amazing burger place near my ballet studio/ theatre. We always go there. We'd always go out for lunch during summer intensive ballet, too. Picture about 50 teenage ballet dancers, all wearing pink tights with shorts and skirts, and taped-up toes in flip-flops, taking over Harvard Square.

The head of one of the theatre groups I'm in has a family-owned Mexican restaurant. We go there the third performance of every show...they clear the place out for us, and have the same waitresses serve us every time. One of them is a massive b****, and we torture her endlessly...sometimes it's a tampon in salsa, sometimes it's dirty and probably not appropriate to post. It's really mean, but hey. She deserves it.
We also like to head out to T.G.I. Friday's at 1 in the morning and just be obnoxious. My friend and I once made $20 singing "Dance: Ten, Looks: Three" in harmony, though.
