Posted: 9/13/09 at 7:28pmIt's still a great show, but I think all of the new casting just shows how essential the meshing of everyone is to the overall dynamic of the show. Ryan Link was on a Berger. While he wasn't bad, he just didn't really command the stage or have any sort of new perspective on the part. I feel like he was going through the motions of lesser Will Swenson impersonation. I'm confused on some of the new tribe members. The different tracks seemed to be switched up from what they once were. Like the guy who is now in American Idiot and he played Booth is now split up. His old costume was given to a new tribe member, but his old "track" is given to someone else. It just seems weird. Also, the "bigger" red headed guy left right before the Be-In in Act 1. He was replaced in the Be-In and for the rest of the show by Matt DeAngelis without any sort of announcement. It seems like a lot of the ensemble members were out today, but it was hard to tell who has quit the show and moved on (Steel Burkhadt? Anthony Hollock? Lauren Elder? Allison Gunn?) because there was no mention of them being out or whatnot and a lot of their pictures are still in the program (which has a new cover and is in black and white). And now for the worst new addition: Heath Calvert. Wow. Wow. He was so AWKWARD. When the curtain fell I was like "who is that?!" He looked like someone's dad had wandered onto the stage. He looks far too old and too out of place. His movements were stiff and he just seemed so disjointed from everyone else. Not to mention his AWFUL wig. He looks like he should be in Phantom of the Opera down the street instead of a hippie musical.

Hollock is out on injury.
But as for the rest: what difference should it matter that the tracks are different? I can't see how most of that should impact the show.

Oh okay. I imagined he did. He - for some reason - couldn't find his spotlight when he was the "principle" and so I figured someone was wrong for him not wanting to get up on the truck.
And it doesn't matter about the different ensemble tracks, but I just find it interesting that they get split up in the way they do.

Again, she took over her track, but didn't perform as Lincoln today. Hm? She's cute as a button though.
Any idea why Megan Lawrence left?

I just don't understand this recent phenomenon that members of the BWW community to start off their thread titles with the word "So":
"So, I Saw Hair again", "So I didn't like West Side Story", "So I just can't stand Idina Menzel"....
What is up with that? Why all the "So's"?

Lauren Elder hurt her ankle/foot a while ago and has been unable to perform. Also, there probably was a section under the understudy board that said "The role of ENSEMBLE will be played by:" and then listed people who were covering the understudy tracks.
Someone on another forum was at the show this afternoon as well and said that Josh Lamon got sick during act one and left and so Matt Deangelis was thrown on for him mid-act, so that should explain why two different people performed the Principal/John Wilkes Booth.

Posted: 9/13/09 at 10:44pmThere seems to be a ridiculous number of injuries happening at this show...they're all legitimate, but I hope that precautions are going to be implemented...it seems to be an issue at this point.

You can just see the disconnect with the new members and the old members. During the "Let the Sunshine In" - all of the "old" girls were in tears and feeling it, but the new cast members just looked out of it and lost.
I just don't get their criteria for hiring some of these people. I mean none of the new guys have long hair, so then why wig the one guy with a horrible wig?

Posted: 9/13/09 at 11:21pmYeah, I think that was Heath's second time on ever, and in a new track. Krystal's out on vocal rest, so she can't sing Abe Lincoln's part, but she's still been covering her tribe track. Steel's on vacation this week. Who's wearing Theo's costume? Heath? or someone else?

I saw the show in July with a bunch of understudies, and I fell asleep for 90% of Act 2.
I would not recommend this show to anyone. Boring.

You fell asleep at Hair.....
You are crazy, why didn't you just leave? Wouldn't the sound be too loud for you to snooze??
I really hate when people exagerate like that. And c'mon it's Hair!

I love act 2 of Hair. I find it brilliantly layered in its simplicity.

Why didn't I just leave? I saw Act 1, and it was fine (nothing amazing), and during Act 2 I began to snooze.
Did I mean to? NO! Have I ever fallen asleep at any other Broadway show? NO! But did it happen at Hair? YES!
Am I exaggerating? Nope.

Nobody's wearing Theo's tribe costume.
I thought the new swings were great when I saw it two weeks ago- lots of life! I didn't feel any sort of disconnect.
