re: So I guess there will be no revival recording

That's a shame, I would have liked a recording of Daphne Rubin-Vega's incredible performance.

I didn't think they ever planned to make one.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Deal with it.

I wanted new recordings of HELLO, DOLLY! when Ginger Rogers and (later) Martha Raye played the lead. It didn't happen.

I survived.

It sucks. I also wanted a cast recording...oh well.

There are probably 80 different recordings of this show. There are more recordings of Les Mis than any other musical ever. Suck it up and deal. I feel more sympathy for bryan.

But Ms. Rubin-Vega's performance is unique. The only believable Fantine I have ever seen. I do wish they had preserved it.

The 9th grader who played the role in the first Little Rock, Arkansas high school production was "unique" as well. Doesn't mean she deserved a cast recording of her own.

Suck it up.

re: So I guess there will be no revival recording

Gosh, I would have liked to have heard that one as well.

But Ms. Rubin-Vega's performance was exquisite as well as unique, but I suppose the full beauty of it wouldn't have come through on simply an audio recording of it anyway.

I knew they would never record it, I'll have to settle for the recordings in Spanish, English, French, German, Urdu, ASL (it's my favorite), IPA and semaphore.

re: So I guess there will be no revival recording

It was a fresh interpretation that I found to be a highlight of the performance. Very nuanced and a far cry from the typical blonde-wigged, sob story cryer. Daphne brought some things to the role that I'd never associate with the character, but were just as fitting as any. I really saw a true destitute woman in her, suffering and robbed of innocence. Truly devoid of beauty, she really brought that role across to me.

FenChurch- Can you edit that post so it isn't so long (it is streatching the page)

I think that Daphne brought on a new, raw, and fresh take on the role which I LOVED.

I am in complete agreement with Fenchurch and Company. She gave the best performance in a company that while excellent, were the run of the mill people who you would cast in Les Miserables. Her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream was so believable and journey she took the audience on till her death was just amazing. Would have loved a recording.

I would consider the Symphonic recording a studio recording.

re: So I guess there will be no revival recording

With limited budgets available for making cast albums it is much more important to record new scores than to waste money re-recording a show that already has (in this case several) cast recordings in print.

we do not need another LES MIZ. Or GYPSY. or OKLAHOMA! or SOUTH PACIFIC. or MY FAIR LADY.

These alternates rarely eclpse the originals and ultimately only cut into their sales.

And before Bryan jumps in with his plea, no we do not need a recording of flop juke box shows liek LENNON or GOOD VIBRATIONS either.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Speak for your self. Growing up I relished different cast recordings of the same musical... comparing performances and orchestrations... different voices, different interpretations... and it's not like because Les Miz is recorded again the Pirate Queen isn't going to be... or whatever... recording a revival doesn't usually prevent a new show from being recorded... I guess that last point could be argued... but not to any degree I would agree with... mostly.

Many shows don't even get recorded even once. Les Miz has over 20. Stop yer whinin.
