but I don't know if it's because I actually liked it or I was just hypnotized by Norm Lewis's abs. Anyone else have this problem???
Saw it last Wednesday and I still can't seem to get that King Triton out of my head. lol

Thank god SOMEONE finally said it.
He has a gorgeous voice and body, but dear lord, he truly did the worst line readings I've ever heard from just about anyone on a Broadway stage. It astonishes me just how stilted and fake he sounds.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 1:42pmI saw it in January and can't get King Triton out of my head. I really liked the show but I was distracted by all the sparkly stuff on Norms chest...lol. Well and his abs.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 2:19pmI'm not sure if it's Triton's lines, Norm, or the directing, but every time he speaks I just CRINGE. It sounds incredibly put-on and bad. In the movie, Triton isn't exactly the most well-developed character but you still get a feeling of who he is -- noble, proud, protective, weary, stern, loving...

I completely agree with you. It was embarassing, quite frankly.
I've heard Norm on several recordings, but have never SEEN him in anything other than "The Little Mermaid", so to those of you who have: is he always like this? I mean, with the horribly bad acting? I'm just really curious.
He played Sweeney Todd at the amazing Signature Theatre several years ago. The vocals were probably stellar, but I can't help but wonder how the same guy I saw onstage at the Lunt-Fontanne could have acted his way through that role.
