Riedel writes his latest NY Post column about the upcoming "All About Me" and spends the entire first half of it going on and on about "backstage tension" between Dame Edna and Feinstein. This goes along remarkably well with the whole faux-conflict storyline they've been trying to create with this show, going back to the "two shows, same title" bit they did a couple months back. Whether or not there actually IS backstage conflict remains to be seen, but it's hard to take it seriously when Riedel interviews BARRY HUMPHRIES (Dame Edna's true identity) about it and he confirms that the two have been clashing.
I must point out that Riedel does touch on some issues with the show itself, but combined with his participation in that "Honorary Understudy" contest they just did, it seems like Riedel needs to climb his way out of the Dame's pocket.
Column here.

Posted: 2/19/10 at 10:00am"Conflict" between the Dame and the crooner has been occurring since the press team manufactured it, back when there were 2 "separate" shows and 2 "separate" opening nights.

Posted: 2/19/10 at 11:41amJoe, I've always loved Riedel's bitchiness. I just don't appreciate what clearly goes beyond "playing favorites" and crosses the line into feeding directly into a show's publicity campaign.

Posted: 2/19/10 at 3:36pmI used to detest Riedel ... until I reaized that his sources are usually quiet accurate & it's often the best place to find out whether I'm going to be employed in a few months. As for this column, Barry Humphries has a very bad rep, so I wouldn't doubt for a moment that he's making Feinstein miserable. But, neither is the issue - he's a gossip columnist, which means he can pretty much take whatever road he wants to keep people interested. If he wants to promote shows, more power to him.

Before you post another one of these "I am shocked, shocked, SHOCKED by the behavior of Michael Riedel" threads, I suggest you watch ALL ABOUT EVE and study the character of Addison DeWitt, as played by George Sanders.
Riedel has, obviously, and he is doing a flawless job at re-creating for our time DeWitt's penchant for stoking controversy.
He si doping exactly what the NY Post pays him to--and exactly what the NY theater world craves.
