Lizzy, do not utter his name. Last time I did that, I had a PM in minutes and he appeared. He's like the cast recording Bloody Mary or Beetlejuice.
Bobby - hugs!
I am looking forward to this cast recording. If for no other reason, just morbid curiosity.

You make a very good point, Yankeefan. I often think Elton John songs really only work when they're being sung by Elton John. (Remember that Elton John night on AMERICAN IDOL a season or so back? Yeesh!) Part of my problem with the LESTAT score is that they took a bunch of Elton John pop songs and tried to disguise them in LES MIZ-style orchestrations. As a result, they lost their profile and identity. One of the smartest things Disney did with AIDA was to allow Elton to be Elton.
TT
I think there should be a cast album so that the wonderful Allison Fischer can be listened to by all. She is by far one of the best things of the show, and I really think everyone should listen to her!
I think they are already pre-ordering.

Someone on the Lestat forum is reporting that the cast will go into the studio in May 22, with copies being rushed to the theater for a Memorial Day weekend sale. This was after talking to one of the cast members.
Anything sound a bit fishy there?
I'll say! There is absolutely no way to record a show and get it to theatres in a week's time. Impossible.
TT
That's not possible.
Yankee, there are a lot more than 10, and I beg to differ on if they're "better."

Lizzie - I know there are more than 10 (thats all I found). By better, I mean they're easier to listen to. Better, in the sense of Lestat, is non-existent.
I'm going to be very upset if there is no cast recording, as everyone has already pointed out, the cast is so talented. And I still thoroughly enjoyed the music to this show.
The show was never a total loss as people make it out to seem. Yes it had/still has problems, but I have a fondess for this show that keeps me loving it. The cast and the score deserve to be immortalized (har, har, pardon my pun) because those were the two best things about the show. IMHO.

I still stand by my belief that every show DESERVES a recording, so the score can be preserved.
Whether or not a show can afford to record one is another issue...
Do you all seriously think Elton John will let this show go unrecorded? Especially considering he thinks this is the best music he's ever written.

Well, all his shows up to now have been big hits.
I agree with Lizzie, I'm fascinated with the show and I don't even really like it, it's just that the cast is wonderful.
I agree with thesbijean. Every show should at least have a recording for the score to be preserved because there will always be someone who just might want to hear it and with the hard work put into writing a show regardless good or bad it should be recorded. As far as Lestat, I love the show and the score should be recorded. Panaro and Fischer are amazing as well as the rest of the cast, The show isnt the worst show to ever open as some are making it seem and this show is defintiyl deserving to have its amazing cast preserve the score.

I just saw the show again, and it IS great. And yes, they are recording the album on the 22nd...I asked.
Also, I think this show really has a shot. The audiences are incredibly enthusiastic...they love it. Everyone gets to their feet when the principals bow..especially Hugh...and Allison Fischer and Drew Sarich are audience favorites...they go nuts for them. I think once we get out of May (notoriously the second worst month for theatre outside of January) and into the summer, the show will do quite well. It's not going anywhere anytime soon, judging by how the audience reacted while I was there.
The Cd of BERNARDA ALBA has been out two weeks and sold all of 600 units.
THE LIKES OF US hasn't yet passed 1,000 units.
The long demanded reissue of BAKER STREET has done 1200 units, in 6 months.
These are NOT encouraging numbers for the record labels.
If LESTAT were to come out and sell 600 copies it would be a huge and expensive failure.
All the fans who claim they would buy it would have to buy 100 copies each just to assure break-even.
Sad..but true.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
damn...those are some sad numbers
Where do these numbers come from frontrowcentre?

But record companies know going into it that they won't see returns on the album immediatley. It will take years before it even breaks even. I don't think it comes as a shock to any of them. I'm sure once Bernarda Alba gets out there and more regional productions are produced, the CD may gain some popularity.
My fiance and I would atleast buy two, if it's ever released.
And what would be the point of spending the money/time recording it and not releasing it?
Or are those photos staged?
Yes, like the moon landing.

LOL! "It's not going anywhere soon..." It went away right after that post.
"Everyone gets to their feet". That part is true. They lept up because they couldn't get to the exits fast enough.
What CD?
