So is PROMISES closing Dec. 26?
#1So is PROMISES closing Dec. 26?
Posted: 9/8/10 at 3:16pmBeing the last day for Sean, Kristin, and Molly (which has a strange 11-week contract up until that date)- what are the chances the production will close on December 26th? Is it even going to recoup by then?

Still doing good box office, but really on the strength of the present cast, which is leaving on 12/26, unless there recasting can be as inspired or the present personnel extend then it is certain to sink.
Hello Sister Act
I have not heard if this show has recouped as yet?

Posted: 9/8/10 at 3:41pmIt will most likely close regardless of gross or if they snag a starry new cast. It is most likely Sister Act is heading to the Broadway, since that is the biggest Shubert house.

Posted: 9/8/10 at 3:58pmSister Act should go into the St. James since American Idiot should be closing soon.

Posted: 9/8/10 at 4:06pmIt should do the St. James since Idiot will shutter end of January (most likely) and allow enough time for Sister Act to move in for the Tonys, but is the rights held by the Shubert Org.?

Posted: 9/8/10 at 4:06pmIt still makes no sense to me why they would choose to close the show on 12/26, missing out on what is probably the biggest week of the year for show grosses. If the stars' exit dates were the following Sunday, then I'd be willing to accept that they were also closing on that date. But with a 12/26 exit date, it still seems very fishy to me.

Posted: 9/8/10 at 4:11pmSince Kristin would be out a good deal of that week, specifically New Year's Eve since she's doing a concert in L.A., it's likely they wouldn't do their normal business anyway.

The producers are actively looking for and in early talks with some celebrities to replace Kristin Chenoweth. There has also been talk that Sean Hayes may extend. (Notice that the press release stated their final performance together would be December 26.)
As always, things could fall through and the producers may opt to close on December 26 after all.

Posted: 9/8/10 at 4:39pmI'd be surprised if they up and closed. I'm sure, as blueq123 pointed out, that the producers are seeking replacements. The show's doing decent box office biz and I'd be shocked if they closed after just one season. Has it recouped?

Posted: 9/8/10 at 10:22pmI know that someone posted this in another thread but if the producers got Megan Mullally to take Cheno's role....the box office would go crazy. Speaking from a strictly box office perspective, there would be no down side.
