Doing only one show a day during the week? I get that this is an event - but seems kind of silly not to have day time showings....

DREAMGIRLS is being presented as a 10-day Limited Roadshow Engagment in 3 cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City. It runs from December 15 thru December 24th. Prices are $25.00 -- it is reserved seating; a 50-page Exclusive Collector's program is given and displays in the lobby will showcase costumes, set designs, etc., from the actual film.

The film opens in general release (and at regular movie theatres and regular movie schedules and prices) starting on Monday December 25th. No displays in the lobby, no 50-page Exclusive Collector's program, etc will not be around once the general release begins.

We knew that.

MB is wondering why they're only doing one show a day, as opposed to multiple showings. They could make quadruple the money if they do 4 shows, as opposed to 1.

And to actually attempt to answer the question, I think the single showings are to make the early engagement more of an event. Limited showings mean limited chances to see it in this format, and the early shows will probably fill up more so than they would if the roadshow showings were as plentiful as a general release. That's just my two cents.

This makes much more sense to me. I thought it was regular showings. It will be packed if it's limited.

Don't know about the other cities, but in New York there will be a 2PM shows on the weekends during the "roadshow."

In Los Angeles at the Arclight Cinerama Dome, on the first Friday (12/15) there are two shows: 7:30PM and 10:30PM.

Saturday and Sunday have three shows each. Saturday: 3PM, 7:30PM and 10PM. Sunday: Noon, 3PM and 7:30PM.

The following Monday-Thursday list a single showtime (Mon-Wed at 8PM, Thursday at 7:30PM).

Then Friday and Saturday (12/22 and 12/23) have two show times each (3PM and 7:30PM), and the final Sunday of the Road Show (12/24) has a single show at 4PM.

Since these are special "event" screenings, I think this is a pretty decent schedule.

That's because we know how to work it here in LA...

Well, I got an e-mail that the event in NY (at least for my showing) is sold out and they recommend that individuals pick up their tickets BEFORE the actual showing. If they are selling out at $25/ticket, it's a good marketing ploy. I'm guessing this limited engagement will really get the buzz out there so that the movie sells when it actually opens. I guess it remains to be seen if that's the case, but it appears to me to be a GREAT marketing tool. I, personally, can't wait for December 15th at 8:00 p.m. The Ziegfeld is an amazing space to see movies in!
