Elaine Paige's ENCORE is the best of her solo CDs. Sadly, she chose to record most of the others with synthesizers and the arrangements are so dated and embarrassing. Her voice is thrilling but most of her CDs (which back in the day were expensive imports) are unlistenable now.

Linda Eder's entire catalog is top notch, including herforay into folk/country "The Other Side of Me." I think it is glorious.

I second that the Skinner/Ripley CDs are terrific!

Of course, Mandy Patinkin's CDs are all sorts of weird. They don't call him "somewhat overindulgent" for nothing... especially his blackface medley at the end of his self-titled CD.

My favorite is Kelli O'Hara's...it's goreous, and I thought "I Have Dreamed" was a boring song before she did her rendition of it.

Least favorite would have to be everything written by Idina Menzel, though I never liked her in the first place.

And I LOVE Stokes, but his CD was a little boring. So is Linda Eder's stuff.

I wonder how SJB's Solo CD will turn out? re: Solo CDs

oh, and Steven Pasquale's CD is PERFECTION and a total surprise. I never thought of him as a vocalist and his CD is the most gorgeous thing I have heard in years.

MICHAEL BALL - leading light of the West End and occasional Broadway transferee ( Aspects of Love and The Woman in White, also NYC Opera's Patience) - check out his numerous CDs and DVDs! Musical theatre, songs from the movies, pop music, a little bit of country, a little bit of rock'n'roll, and even a little bit of opera, standards! A few from live concert performances and that fabulous Donmar Warehouse tour-de-force!

Too many good stuff to ennumerate re: Solo CDs

I put both of them in my list too....well Eder's "The Other Side of Me" turns people off because she labels it as "country" but I'd more call it "Broadway-Pop-Country" it's a random blend of the three!

I never understood why Elaine Paige did that "tropical" sounding "Another Suitcase in Another Hall," or "The Perfect Year" as a duet with herself ... but I still love that album!
