I know the Tony posts have been done to death, but they're keeping conversation alive.
I'm not sure if this article is syndicated or not, my paper sometimes does that.
These are some of the more... original, I guess would be a good word to use... Tony predictiobns of Carl Barbati:
Best Book of a Musical: Spamalot - It would be a real surprise if Monty Python's Eric Idle does not go home with this one.
Leading Actor in a Musical: Gary Beach (La Cage) - Let's go with traditional "awards show theories" here. Azaria and Curry, both wonderful in Spamalot cancel each other out. Ditto for Butz and Lithgow in Scoundrels. That leaves Beach, who would have been the choice here no matter what. Funny and heart-warming, Broadway veteran Beach really delivers big-time in this one.
Leading Actress in a Musical: Undecided - Everybody admires Applegate for keeping Sweet Charity on track despite its many problems, Dilly is wacky in a bad show and Scott is wacky in a good show. From here, this race comes down to two classics: Foster in the disappointing Little Women and Clark in the outstanding Light in the Piazza. Both women have big Broadway careers in their futures and both will surely be nominated many more times. Call it a toss-up this time around.
Okay.. the popular predictions for these categories are, respectively: Spelling Bee, Norbert Leo Butz, and Victoria Clark (with Christina Applegate following). The reason I find this funny is because of his reasoning for the Leading Actor category; he seems so assured. Anybody agree with his predictions or think he could be correct?

For Book of a Musical? No, I'd say Spelling Bee is the frontrunner.
