Given its tortured tryout in Boston, where all hell broke loose, the salvaging of it for the Broadway production was really one of the great turnaround success stories of recent history. It's my favorite of the "new" Gershwin musical comedies, as it has the anarchic, loose-limbed spirit of those original 1920s Gershwin musicals, like Lady, Be Good! and Oh, Kay! and the like.

For those who don't know the story of My One and Only's Boston tryout and complete overhaul, here is a NY Times account of what happened. It helps when you can have the likes of Mike Nichols, Peter Stone and Michael Bennett come to the rescue, but even so... There was also a superb NY Magazine story about the show's journey, but I haven't been able to locate it. So this version will have to do.
