Hi, I am planning to see Something Rotten and want to go to a show where Brian D'Arcy James is performing. Do they have specific dates where the understudies perform or do you only find out at the last minute?

Actors don't usually take performance off on a regular basis. There are a few circumstances due to the demands of a particular role that an actor shares the role with an alternate. This is public knowledge. Something Rotten has no alternates.
So, unless BDJ has a scheduled vacation or calls put sick, he'll be there.

BDJ also almost never misses performances, so unless he's taking a vacation you should be good.
