I've been trying to practice my spanish by pairing showtune lyrics with spanish words. It's easier for me to swallow my homework when I can mentally sing along with it. It occured to me today while listening to Kiss Me that it'd be awfully tough to translate Sondheim because he's so wordy.
So my question is this: Has anyone ever heard any Sondheim music in Spanish? If so, did it manage to stay true to the rhythm without losing any of the meaning?
am mi diu que vol casar-se;
no se que fer, jo em vill morir.
prendre un veri per salvar-me,
val mes la mort que ser infelic.
que ha estat aquest soroll?
crec que he sentit soroll.
no pot ser.
no es aqui.
ell avui ha sortit.
pero he sentit soroll.
que es aquest soroll?
l'has d'haver sentit.
deu meu.
senyor.
si ell em fa la seva esposa,
pobra de mi, jo em morire
ja falta poc per la boda,
que podem fer amb tan poc temps?
vine a amagar-te aqui!
la porta del jardi..!
crec que si.
pero que dic?
no tenim jardi.
pero he sentit un clic.
l'has d'haver sentit.
avui?
aquesta nit?
senyor!
tinc molta por.
ja t'estimava
des d'abans de veure 't
m'era igual qui eres
m'era igual coneixer
el teu nom!
amb molt de ust.
sabia que arribaries
tot i que no se res de tu!
pero he tingut tanta por
vinguessis mai.
que fossis mort
o malalt
pres en un castell
sorta d'un cavall
naufrag d'un vaixell
pemjat de cap per
besa mi!
besa'm
besa'm
amor.
There is a Spanish recording of Sweeney Todd out there, from when it was done in Madrid or wherever. I've seen in on eBay. I imagine it's quite different!
There's a well known version of Sweeney Todd done in Barcelona, but it's in Catalan, not Spanish. There HAVE been versions in Spanish, but I've never seen one.
Oh, and, just in case, what morosco posted is not Spanish. I believe it's Italian, but I'm not 100% sure.
I'm a native Spanish speaker, so if you need any help with homework, let me know :p
Yes, that is Catalan anyway.
I have the Brazilian cast recording of Company...
But wouldn't the Brazilian recording by in Portuguese?
I think it would.
Spanish is an awesome language.
