I listened to the recording of Frogs and Evening Primrose and I like them both a lot, but I was really curious about the latter. I think the music is beautiful, especially "If you can find me I'm here" and "Take me to the world".
I read that it was written for an ABC series of hourlong musicals and dramas in the 1960's. I really wish more could be done with it. I'd like to see a remake of it (starring Neil Patrick Harris, of course).
Imagine, a television series of musicals...too good to be true.

SATURDAY NIGHT might make an interesting TV musical.
I love EVENING PRIMROSE.

Weee, I'm getting deleted all over the place. Did I really say such horrible things? If so, I apologize.
To completely neutralize my deleted post, I said that it would be interesting to see a series of short made-for-TV musicals, like the series of which Evening Primrose was a part.

Posted: 7/28/04 at 2:51pmI fell for "Evening Primrose" after hearing Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters sing it on Mandy's "Dress Casual" cd. They are both in top form, and Mandy is not too caustic.

Posted: 7/28/04 at 2:59pmI know the plot of the musical, but does anyone have any other info? Such as, did it ever air on television? or what time period it takes place in (and why is it called "Evening Primrose")?

One of my favourite Sondheim songs is "I Remember ( Sky)" from EVENING PRIMROSE.
I love those lyrics!
And if you are a fan of Barbra Streisand you must have gotten a copy of her more recent CHRISTMAS ALBUM and have heard a version of the song from her. Additional lyrics were added to give it a more Christmas-sy feel.
