Is he still fixing Bounce, or is a new project shaping up? Come on, Mr S!
Thanks for any updates.

Posted: 9/24/06 at 4:44pmHe and John Weidman are back at work on rewriting the-show-formerly-known-as-BOUNCE ........ they're planning on renaming it again -- first GOLD, then WISE GUYS, then BOUNCE, then _________. There was a reading earlier this year with Bernadette Peters among others. I suppose they'll probably workshop it again sometime next year when they think the new version is ready.

I was under the impression that the title of this show has gone something like this: (THE MIZNER BROTHERS >) WI$E GUY$ > GOLD > STRIKE IT RICH(!) > BOUNCE > _______ . Title it whatever you want, but I really don't see this show EVER being much more than mild entertainment - a feature which Sondheim seems to avoid in most of his other shows. I wish he had this kind of passion for getting SINGING OUT LOUD produced...
I'll be sure to ask him what the new title of BOUNCE is tomorrow night!

Posted: 9/24/06 at 5:17pmI'm still intrigued by his notion of doing a musical based on the movie "Groundhog Day." He mentioned it a few years back in an interview and seemed intrigued by all of the possible permutations of theme and variations one could explore musically. I haven't seen it mentioned since. I take it he abandoned the idea at some point. Too bad.

He did, indeed, spend some time on working on Groundhog Day. As he loves, of course, theme and variation. The more time he spent on it, he realized the music would need to be more contemporary than he was comfortable writing.
Too bad! He could have had some fun with it! (He did tell me to take a crack at it...hmmm)

Does anyone recall hearing that his next project was called Mabignon (or something to that affect)? It was some ancient Scottish play, or something.
I'm nearly positive I saw that on the Finishing the Chat posts...
I googled it, and didn't find any thing on it.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 2:00amI've heard that too, but I get the feeling (somewhat sinking) that he's pretty much focused on Bounce right now. What with a cast recording out and everything, I feel like the door should be closed on that show, but hey, if they feel there's more to be done, then there may be more to be done. I'll go see it.

Me too.
I wish he'd work on something new rather than still working on BOUNCE. And I actually like BOUNCE a lot more than most people seem to, but... yeah, I agree with Pgenre, I can't even imagine BOUNCE being anything but just entertaining. At its best.
But I could be wrong, maybe he'll make it amazing and I'll eat my hat. My figurative hat. With my figurative mouth.
