Yes i know we are not allowed to link to you tube ( will remove the link ) if some one knows the answers.

Thanks

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Wow. The guy singing Paul's part isn't very good, is he?

He looks like he is about to pass out with fear, Steven looks like he is having a great time.

I love how Mr. Sondheim is mouthing Amy's lyrics. He really gets into his material, as any good songwriter should.

it says right on the clip it's from The Guildhall School in the UK and by the looks of the clothes and Steve himself I would say early to mid 80s

If you're interested in seeing the whole thing and you're in NY, they have the program at the Paley Center (formerly The Museum of Television and Radio) on 52nd between 5th and 6th. I've watched clips of it from there. Twice, they did huge Sondheim things so they have quite a few interviews, old and new, clips from lots of TV appearances such as this, etc.

The thing I watched, he watched the clips along with the audience and then the interviewer asked him about it, and I think he said something about it's good to be encouraging and not tell the singer that she's sharp. Heh.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

There are a few of them on there, not just Getting Married Today.

Wow, that was amazing. The man is a genius, there's no other way around it.
The guy playing Paul was just a lost cause, the girl singing Susan forgot that this was a comedy number--all the jokes fell flat, Amy was much better though, the only one I thought had potential. But Sondheim stole the show, not only does he understand his music/lyrics but he understands theater, the staging, the audience. Amazing.
The other clips are just as good. The guy who tries singing "Later" is terrible but seeing Sondheim talk about the song and the character and basically act the number himself is orgasmic.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

In 1990 Sondheim was a Visiting Professor at Oxford University. Afterwards, the students in the class got together and wrote a musical called "The Challenge" based on Greek mythology. Each student contributed a song to the show. The cd was recorded by John Yap. IMO, there are only about two good songs in the show, so the cd is not really worth getting.

When Sondheim taught over in the UK (it might have been this class) he gave all the students rhyming dictionaries as gifts. The problem was that he gave them American dictionaries not British ones.

I could do better than these people! Well, maybe not with the pressure of Sondheim himself being there...
