Oak Joo-Hyun's upcoming solo album, "Gold," will feature some new tunes by Wildhorn, including "Be Cafeful With My Heart" from the upcoming Wildhorn-Murphy musical of "Matahari." Other songs on the Wildhorn produced CD are "When the World was Mine" (Count of Monte Cristo), "Finding Wonderland" (Wonderland), "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" and more.

"Mata Hari" features a book by Ivan Menchell, English lyrics by Jack Murphy and music by Wildhorn. The world premiere will occur in November of 2015 in Seoul. The musical is based on the life of Mata Hari, "an exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy and executed by firing squad in France under charges of espionage for Germany during World War I."

I'd rather see an attempt to rework the 1967 Mata Hari musical and bring that back. The potential is there. It'll be interesting to see if this one makes it to the states

Since it is a Wildhorn show , the critics will not allow that to happen.

Why do people keep giving this man money? There's a point where it becomes ridiculous. Is there another composer who comes close to the amount of failure, critically and financially, that Wildhorn has? The investors are just throwing their money in the garbage. Regardless of my personal distaste for Wildhorn, this is just becoming absurd.

To be fair, Wildhorn's shows tend to do a LOT better in other countries. ^

Wildhorn has quite the following in the Asian markets now - Monte Cristo, Jekyll & Hyde (in its 10th year), Bonnie & Clyde, Rudolf, and Dracula are all playing in South Korea, for example, this year.

To be honest, his only musical that has flopped consistently was WONDERLAND (love the score), ironically the only story that lended itself to "contemporary" pop music. It's his worst flop financially and critically in NY, and didn't really perform too well in Japan. As it is returning this year, I imagine more changes to come.

The recordings always seem to fare well also.

I agree 100%. I saw Jekyll & Hyde in 1997 and really liked it. I also saw Scarlet Pimpernel and it was OK, definitely not a disaster. I did not get to see Bonnie & Clyde but the music I head from it sounded pretty decent. I wonder if Wildhorn did the music under a different name if the reaction would be the same - lol.

Most of the New York theater scene does hate him, but he has a pretty solid following elsewhere.

... The short lived (& trashy) Jekyll & Hyde revival played Broadway last year after a year long tour.

ARTUS - Excalibur also had its world premiere in St. Gallen (direction by Francesca Zambello) earlier this year as well, and will continue in the Fall into 2015.

Besides Mata Hari (South Korea), he's got Mitsuko (2015 Japanese premiere planned), a revamped The Civil War (2015 Ford's Theatre, Washington, DC), Death Note: The Musical (2015 Tokyo) and a revamped WONDERLAND also in Japan later this year.
