"Surrey with the Fringe on Top" gets my vote. Lovely song, but enough already!
Mariah Carey Cannon singing The Internet is For Porn
'Surrey With The Fringe On Top' is a horrible song to sing. All that grunting away on the same note, you need mad skillz to make it sound good.
Any song that doesn't work out of the context of the show. Ideally they should stick to things that haven't been explicitly written for the opposite gender (anyone can have a bash at 'Being Alive', but Linda Eder's 'Man Of La Mancha' makes me sad in ways I can't explain).
'Totally F*CKed'. Can you imagine that turning up on someone's solo album? You'd laugh them off the CD rack. Maybe a nice arrangement of 'Blue Wind' though...
i know i will be bashed for saying this, but enough with "No one Is Alone."
I think there is enough of "I Got Lost in His Arms"
Or "I Had Myself a True Love," Jewishboy (and completely agree about "I Got Lost In His Arms).
My picks:
"Send in the Clowns"
"Losing My Mind"
"Being Alive"
"On My Own"
"I Dreamed a Dream"
And the plethora of singer/songwriters' songs that Broadway performers insist on including in their recordings, mostly Jonni Mitchell, John Lennon, etc.
Memory.....ENOUGH ALREADY!
And yes, I mean you Barbra Streisand! Having this song on 10-ish CDs makes me crazy.
Kudos tho for Bernadette Peters for recording "Nothing Like a Dame" on her R&H album. I needed a cigarette afterwards [and i don't smoke...]
I think performers should not try to sing duets as a solo number. Michael Ball has done this in the past, and it's so awkward.
Karmine Alers should not have done "Out Tonight"
i believe that we have enough versions of "No One Is Alone" and "Being Alive". we get the point...
i also agree with the duet comment. unless your arrangement is AMAZING, i would skip turning duet songs into a solo piece. this means you people trying to put "Defying Gravity" on your new album!
Kim Criswell's version of "Who Will Love Me As I Am?" is so weird...
"I think performers should not try to sing duets as a solo number. Michael Ball has done this in the past, and it's so awkward. "
AGREED! Elaine Paige does it alot...and it's weird. Especially "The Perfect Year" from SUNSET BLVD. I think Petula Clark did it too,..and it's just weird!
And for the record, Elaine Paige's "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" is sort of awkward...it sounds like it belongs on a cruise ship or something!?
And I'd like to add "No One Knows Who I Am"...doesn't send a good message!

Tilda if you think Babs is bad about singing with herself....
(Uncle Marc, I hope you're not watching)
Bette Midler is AWFUL about singing duets, and three part harmony with herself.
There's nothing I like more than to see a Marquee that reads:
TONIGHT! The Bette Midler Trio: Bette Midler, Bette Midler and YES, Bette Midler!"
Speaking of new arrangements, have any of you heard Laura Michelle Kelly's "Losing My Mind." The whole song is completely rethought, it's quite delightful
"...and when the night is new,
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you."
Some of the "classics"need to be retired. I never need to hear another solo artist sing Music of the Night, Being Alive, Bring Him Home or Anthem. I probably have a dozen versions of each already -- find something else to do already!
You see? I think Debbie Gravitte's arrangement for "Sing for Your Supper" is one of the few instances where a trio performed as a solo works pretty well.
I also love her solo rendition of "Suddenly Seymour" even if some parts don't really work.
I do generally agree with the idea that they shouldn't include solo versions of duets, especially since it's always great when they have a guest performer to sing the duets like Brent Barrett did in his Kander & Ebb album (it features excellent guest appearances by Jane Krakowski and Ruthie Henshall).
Oh, let me add "Unexpected Song" and "Love Changes Everything" to the list. Please no more!
Lea DeLaria did a version of "Losing My Mind" which I thought was really good, so maybe that one depends upon the performer and how it's arranged.
"Corner of the Sky" is one that comes to mind...
Any of these Sondheim warhorses: Being Alive, Losing My Mind, Not While I'm Around.
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, If (If You Hadn't But You Did)) and the ultimate overdone song - Over The Rainbow.
I don't know about everyone else, but Anthony Warlow is totally allowed to sing 'Losing My Mind' AS MUCH AS HE WANTS. When I have to act being in love with someone and it doesn't come easily, then that's the perfect song to listen to just before going onstage. GUH Anthony Warlow... *_*
Well, I just think there's an overload of "Losing My Mind." The ones that are already released may be great, but I honestly don't think we need any more renditions out there. Then again I'm a complete hypocrite because I would have died without Donna Murphy's rendition of the same song that was released in the WALL TO WALL SONDHEIM album.
I most definitely agree with "Over the Rainbow." Oh, and I don't think we need any more "I'm Still Here"s.
I'm also a bit tempted to say that there are enough recordings of "It Never Was You"...but can you really have enough recordings of "It Never Was You"?
I haven't heard Elaine Paige's "Another Suitcase..." but I rather like Susan Egan's version, where she also provides the backup vocals on the chorus. It doesn't sound too awkward.
