Don't be afraid to gender-bend . . . sometimes even well-known pieces can work really well with a fresh interpretation!

Doug Cohen - musicals THE OPPOSITE OF SEX and GLIMMERGLASS to name a couple.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

When a man sings "Could I Leave You?" from Follies it has some great moments that the audience really enjoys.
Depending on your vocal style "King of the World" from Songs For a New World is a great solo and has no real context so is great for a cabaret.
Finally, Company offers a lot of great intimate pieces for men like "Being Alive" and if you have a male guest "Sorry-Grateful".

Judy, Liza, Barbara, Bette, these are names I shant forget.

It all kinda depends on how high you can sing before you start asking for suggestions. I mean king of the world goes up to a high C and is a difficult piece. And if you cant nail that high C it kinda takes away. SO give us some range and then maybe we can help out a little better. Where do you top out and theb i can find some great suggestions for you.

If I were in a lounge or cabaret and heard someone sing "Taylor the Latte Boy" for the 67,543 time, I would leave immediately.

It was cute and funny when our dear little Chenugget first performed it on the Rosie O'Donnell show over ten years ago. It's been done. And done. AND DONE. And then done some more.

I'm sure it is. I can think of dozens of things that are fun to perform that probably shouldn't be done in public.

True.

There was a song that Johnny T sang in his cabaret act that was really good. All I know is that it was about his second cousin. Sorry that doesn't help but it was a great song. Read into it! haha.

You could sing "You Should Have Been in Pictures" and dance around like Edie!

If you ever choose to break into chick songs don't fret. Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett did it all the time way back when so if anyone bitches about "it's a GIRL song! you can't sing that!" then look them right in the eye and say "All right then, if I can't be belting out 'Maybe This Time' I never wanna hear your behind singing some 'Sexyback' since apparently you're unfamiliar with the fact that in theatre, gender-bending ain't no problem! look at Billy Porter and Marty Thomas! HELLO"

I'm watching some ghetto funny ass stand up on Comedy Central, so xcuse me for sounding a bit crass.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

Hmm...I love "Stairway to Paradise" and "S'Wonderful" for a guy, if you want some good old fashioned Gershwin.
Story songs are always fun..."See What I Wanna See", "Meadowlark"...
Hmmm...I'll think more...

High Baritone? Here are a few suggestions that you don't hear too often...

"Colors of My Life" from Barnum (you can accompany yourself on a tuba... or not... )
"All I Wanted Was the Dream" from Legs Diamond
"They Call the Wind Maria" from Paint Your Wagon
"Father to Son" from Falsettos
"I Can See It" from The Fantasticks
