That wouldn't make sense for them not to be able to get permission to use the name USC since they did film the majority of the outside school shots at USC.

Elle also ended up getting a 175 in the musical and a 179 in the movie on the LSATs. I don't know if everyone knows but the LSAT is out of 180 and simply getting in the 170's is well into the 90th percentile. I would say that would make her a fairly good standardized test taker. The least believable part is her going from below a 140 to over 170 because it isn't the type of test you can make a 30 point swing on.
And like everyone else has been saying, you can be a total airhead and still get good grades and be book smart. Some people are just like that.
My question... is there a sorority called Delta Nu? I've never heard of it.
No. In the book, it's Delta Gamma (my roommate's sorority, how funny), but to avoid issue with any actual organizations, they made up a sorority.
I was in Delta Zeta and our colors were pink and green like the Delta Nu's in the movie. (yeah- we used to rag on those colors too but the sorority was founded in the early 1900's). Looks like the movie didn't even use the Delta Gamma things (their symbol is the anchor and their colors were not pink and green).

Paying location fees to USC to shoot there and getting permission and paying to actually use the name are two different things.

Yes I realize that but why would USC say no? One of the producers of the film is a big donor to USC.
Wicked_Mimmi- But my point is that they aren't book smart. I believe in the movie it says that one of the sorority girls only passed Spanish because she slept with the professor.
perhaps because they did not want the USC name used in conjunction with what could be perceived as someone not so bright?

That is what I started to think after reading some of the posts on this thread.
I'll agree with SC prob. didn't want to be associated with the airhead image. They have been working like crazy in the past couple years to try to undo the whole "University of Spoiled Children" stereotype and this would just be counterprouctive. I also have to add to the whole "Parents bought their way in" totally fits both schools so its not so hard to imagine Elle at either one.
Well, it is a movie/musical/book. You can do whatever you want in movies/musicals/books.
You can "buy" your way into a state school? I wasn't aware of this option. UCLA, to my understanding, does not have a Legacy policy, does not accept Letters of Recommendation with applications, and is pretty much a numbers crunch: Test Scores + GPA + ECs + Essay. I guess if you brought in a marching band into the Chancellor's office, maybe...

Elle probably had a good high school GPA and did well on the SAT if she studied enough for it (look at how well she did on the LSATs just with a little studying.) And I'm sure that she had a ton of extra-currics in high school, too.
Essays, from my own experience, aren't all that important. But Elle probably wrote a good one; she can be intelligent when she has to be. In the book and movie she actually gave an essay. It actually annoys me how in the musical she doesn't have one, haha.
What spork said..AND it's a made up story.
Plus, let's be honest. If you're as pretty as reese Witherspoon, you can do anything. ::goes into I-Love-Reese_Withdrawl::

You can't "buy" your way in but you can "donate" your way in.

if you paid attention to the movie, elle's undergraduate school is cula, not ucla.
