Thank you ,Emcee, for that uplifting review
I'm gonna agree with erinrebecca. I'm not going to let the bad reviews get me down -- as long as I like the movie, whatever. I really, really want to love this.
That 2nd review sounds like it was written by a 6th grader.
I was thinking the same thing Idinarocks.
I'm sure there are some 6th graders out there who could write fantastic film reviews. The second one just doesn't give any credible insight into the film. Virtually everything in it could have been written by someone who has just seen the show on Broadway.

I think it was insulting to most sixth graders to say that the second review sounded like it was written by one. It was so terribly written in every possible way. Looks like the U of Nebraska has a need for some talented journalism students.
The 6th grade level makes it Daily News worthy.

Here's a review from David Poland who runs the Movie City News website. As was noted at Oscarwatch.com, he is known for having his hand on the pulse of the motion picture industry.

Wow, now THAT was a well-written, intelligent, and thoughtful review.
I'm downright depressed. The first review seemed entirely more mean spirited than was necessary, I suspect she didn't like the play itself. The second did seem a bit over simplified. That third one, while I give props for originality and presention of opinion...it felt too over the top. I was drowing in that review and almost didn't finish it, it was drawn out.
Fantasy sequences? Beauty School Dropout? Greased Lightning? A movie about the 50's in the late 70's? Cheesy as hell but it worked. Rent, by subject matter alone, simply cannot be all song and dance. SIGH...yeah, I'm depressed......don't think I'll read anymore of these either.

Why are you folks upset over a poorly-written review in some college paper? And David Poland at the Hot Button is considered a buffoon so disregard his comments. Last year he predicted that Phantom of the OPera would sweep the Oscars.
I saw the film last night. I'm not a Renthead and I despise Chris Columbus' film ouevre but I have to say the film worked more often than it didn't. It's not a great film, not even a great film musical, but people in the audience were crying and one guy who'd seen the show as a workshop through countless productions was very pleased with it. Most of the cast was there (Jesse, Idina and Taye were working in New York) so it was a treat to watch them react. Rosario Dawson is ravishing in person and in the film.

LOL, well, that makes me feel better too.
