Though we already know .. that probably SOUTH PACIFIC will win the TONYS...
bec. they will distribute the awards for the Revival Category....
For Gypsy:
Lead Actress- Patti LuPone
Featured Actress- Benanti
For Sunday in the Park:
Lead Actor- Daniel Evans
Best Scenic Design
and that's leave us with Best Revival for SOUTH PACIFIC...

Interesting that the tour's expected start isn't until Fall '09. This implies the an assumption that the Broadway run will be quite long and healthy.
As for the awards J*, I tend to agree.
I think it'll be as you've said - and I think lighting may go to South Pacific, as well...with sets going to SunPark. If SunPark's projections had been considered lighting then it would have gone the other way. Luck of the draw, I guess. And a shame, because Michael Yeargan's sets are beautiful.

The Tony Committee decided that the projections is a part of the Scenic Design (per WBaF's post)-- that alone will is a SURE WIN for Sunday in the Park!
I strongly believe that they will distribute the awards..
I think the SCORE will go to PASSING STRANGE
The Book will go to XANADU- the only award it will get.
and the BEST MUSICAL will go to IN THE HEIGHTS... I will be very suprised..if PASSING STRANGE will win! (and I will be very happy!) but its a no-brainer- they will give it to a more SAFE CHOICE which is IN THE HEIGHTS!
I dont know for Featured Actor? I am guessing... Its the kid from IN THE HEIGHTS (Usnavi's side kick) this is the tricky part... they might decided to throw a bone for A CATERED AFFAIR and give it to Harvey or YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN for Chris...
Most likely .. it will go to Harvey Feinstein or a logical choice is to GYPSY again for Boyd Gaines and just snub A CATERED AFFAIR totally!
THE LITTLE MERMAID & CRY-BABY will most likely not get anything....
Let's face it.... its the YEAR OF REVIVALS! (Musical & Play- do you know how many Play Revival we had this year- i think its 10)

If the awards were tomorrow, I think you've called it, jaystarr.
And this is certainly the beginning of their campaign for that Tony, which I think is already theirs.

For Sunday in the Park:
Lead Actor- Daniel Evans
I still think Tom Wopat almost has this award in the bag. He's never won before, he's (apparently) giving a great performance (with a emotionally big, show-offy song ["I Stayed"]), he's got it. Almost.

Don't count out Paolo Szot, who has gotten better reviews than any of his contenders (save for Wopat, whose show hasn't opened yet).
Wopat's problem will be that he has very little to do except for his big number at the end of the show.

Sorry to disagree jaystarr, but I still the big awards for revival are up in the air, I know people on this board want Patti to win,but god damn it Jenna and Kelli deserve it as much if not more than Patti because even if she loses, Lupone still has a tony whereras these two do not and plus they are still up and comers andit would help their careers whereas Lupone it wouldn't make a difference whether she won the Tony or not since shes already had a a pretty awesome career, even with a few setbacks, but hey nothings perfect. Also in regards to other acting tonys and best revival everyone from either 3 revivals has a pretty good chance. Come Tony time your predictions could be right or mine could be, but there is one thing we probably both agree on its that this season is definitely that of revivals and come Tony night it is going to be very interesting.
Side note: Since South Pacific is doing so well, any chance it be taped for Live from Lincoln Center???

Generally speaking shows that are planning to tour will not release any sort of recording - be it Great Performances, or Live at Lincoln Center.
After all, releasing a recording of the show would cut into the possible revenues of a tour.
So, as a rule you either have a tour or a recorded presentation...not both. If a video is made, it probably wouldn't happen until after the tour...which is unlikely in and of itself.

Then perhaps I lied. lol.
You are completely correct.
Light in the Piazza ran until July of 2006. The Live From Lincoln Center aired on June 15th. They overlapped.
Ignore what I wrote...listen to the better informed.

It will be well-received across the country as a time honored favorite musical. I'll go see it in Little Rock :)
