I saw it yesterday (matinee) and was so moved. The cast, the music (the orchestra is so rich). I became very emotional---the audience was full of senior citizens----I'm sure many of these men were WWII vets (my own father was---served overseas). So----I was hearing the incredible reaction of these audience members and watching this beautiful moving performance and had tears just streaming down. I wouldn't have missed it for anything, tho'---just an amazing experience.
I loved this production of South Pacific! Believe me, the overture alone was worth the price of admission. I envy your evening tonight!
I was there at yesterday's matinee as well. Only Matt Caplan was out. It's AMAZING! Although I thought the sound was way too soft.
Have fun! I wish I could see it again. The theater is surprisingly intimate, and I could have sworn the performers weren't wearing mics -- I had to really strain to hear the dialog at times though not the singing. I'll never forget all those guys leaping over the sand and then singing the roof off!
I saw the show Tuesday night and loved it! It was WONDERFUL! Hope you have a great time tonight. Please report back and let us know what you thought of it.
kooky, we'll see you at SP tonight!

stagescreen, I will look for you ...... I'll be the one crying during the overture!!!!!!!
Where are you sitting ??????
I loved it in previews the closest to perfect production I have ever seen!
We're sitting in the 500's, I think. Far left orchestra, like in the second or third row.

World War II ended 63 years ago. The youngest WWII vets would be at least 84 or older. Just how old WAS this audience?

Quite old----they appeared to be in very late 70's or early 80's. (MANY of them)
Patash, don't underestimate the ages of the Lincoln Center Theater subscribership.
I don't think I do, but ALL those in their late 70's and early 80's would NOT be WWII veterans, as I've already explained.
My point was that I think South Pacific is not so much about WWII, which just happens to be the setting -- and audience members smiling would have little or nothing to do with having been in the South Pacific during that time. South Pacific makes EVERYONE smile. I have gray hair and you would see me smiling -- but that doesn't mean I'm a WWII vet -- I'm older than dirt, but was born AFTER WWII.

Regardless of age it's great people are loving the production. We just did an interview with Kelli and she talks about South Pacific and how the entire cast prepared for the show. It might be interesting to anyone who really enjoyed the production.
