Last I heard, Cyndi Lauper was actually going to appear in Rosie's new musical, not just contribute music. And she's anything but washed up. I saw her last month in an intimate concert promoting her new CD and will be seeing her again in a few weeks at a larger venue. She has one of the strongest voices and unique styles ever. Check her out on the Tycoon recording or on the Wig in a Box tribute CD. Personally, I think she should take over for Kerry in LSOH...

Back to the topic on hand, I'd like to see a musical built around Elton John's classics. Plenty to choose from!

That would be very dreadful, but we all know what kind of audiences would be flocking to Broadway. Just put Justin Timberlake in it and Broadway will never be the same.
The musical could be called "Dirty Pop: The Life and Times of 'N Sync."

The Pet Shop Boys did have a musical a few years ago called Closer To Heaven. It was all their music come of it heard before on previous recordings. It did not do very well- the story concerned a boy coming into the nightlife of London and the trials and tribulations. Sort of like the london version of Taboo. Closer to Heaven was first though.

There was an Elvis musical that played the Beacon theatre in NYC about 12 years ago. It was pretty bad. I believe it was a national tour but I could be wrong. The lead was very good though- he pleyed Elvis at the Alcazar de Paris one of the theatres that was converted into the Ford about 15 years ago. Also in the cast was the little person from Carnivale on HBO who impersonated Michael jackson- YES!!!! a mini Michael!!!!!!

If you want to get a dose of Melissa Manchester's "musical" abilities, just rent Disney's Lady and the Tramp 2. She wrote the music, and it's quite possibly the only time you'll hear Jodi Benson, Jeff Bennett, Roger Bart and Susan Egan singing a quartet, and Roger Bart and Susan Egan sing a love song.

Considering it's a direct to video Disney sequal, the music is really quite good.

Just thought you might want to know!

DivaMommy: Thanks for the information. I actually knew it. I am a HUGE Missy fan and own EVERYTHING that she has ever recorded--vinyl to video to cd. Have you ever listened to her off-broadway cast recording of " I Sent a Letter to My Love"? Megan Mulhally is in it.

I saw Closer to Heaven (most embarassing moment meeting Sandra Bernhard that night). I hated it. The characters were all despicable and I didn't care what happened to any of them. The Pet Shop Boys are OK, but a little of their music goes a long way for me. It was a very tiresome evening.

I also saw the short-lived musical, Boyband, in London. It was pretty dull. There was a flimsy book about the creation of the band and the relationships of its members, but all the songs were performed as if in concert. None of the music was worked into the book. Some of the songs were pretty good, though. One of them, "Have Fun, Go Mad", was used as the theme for the short-lived Hank Azaria sitcom last year. I was so shocked when I heard it. The CD has been out of print for years and very difficult to find. That song was my particular favorite in the show.

Oh - I don't know how to say this, but I don't know very much at all about Melissa Manchester. I just knew that tidbit because my daughter just borrowed the video and I happened to notice MM penned the tunes. But - you've sparked my interest and now I shall educate myself.

Though Madonna might have a decent amount of material for a musical, I don't think she would ever think of taking it to broadway! I remember during an interview or something, she mentioned that she hates listening to her old material, like "like A Virgin," "Papa Don't Preach," and so on.
I don't know, but I see Madonna slooooowwwly fading away from "Hollywood" and just living a quiet "English" life in her "home" - England! I don't think that she would complain about that!

As embarrassing as this may be, I have to say I'd love to see the John Denver musical Almost Heavan. I believe it's still playing at Denver Center. Not that it belongs on Broadway, please don't get me wrong, it would be worse than Look of Love, but I'd see anything with his songs.

But you know what I'd LOVE to see? I kick-arse rap musical (the P Diddy/Raisin comment reminded me!) I don't know whose catalog is prolific enough but maybe Eminem, Biggie, Diddy, or Missy?

I know it will be Glen Campbell.

The show is titled "By The Time I Get To Phoenix."

The plot follows the lyrics and they use all of Glen's songs throughout. Including: Witchita Lineman, Galveston, Rhinestone Cowboy, Southern Nights.

There is a large marketing campaign planned coupled with an extensive tour prior to opening on Broadway.

I have one: What about the Carpenters? Even yet, it could be about the Carpenters. I don't know if it would have a huge audience, maybe Japan. Richard Carpenter is selling out concerts there. Call it "Yesterday Once More"
