re: Spalding Gray Stories to Tell What can i expect

You can expect to hear exact readings of the monologues and journal entries of one of the greatest monologists of all time.

The monologues and journal entries are performed in chronological order, from the start of his career in his twenties to his final journal entry before committing suicide in his fifties. It traces through his life. To say that the evening is touching would be a major understatement. His writings are so blatantly honest, humorous, and human that you cannot help but be captivated.

Enjoy the evening. Expect lots of laughter and plenty of tears. Then come back on here and tell everyone what you thought of it, so hopefully we can encourage people to buy tickets and experience what we have.

Bumping this... I think I'm going tomorrow night, and I had a few questions.

1. Has anyone done their rush? The website says they sell them half an hour before curtain, but should I get there earlier? Has anyone had any trouble getting rush seats?

2. About how long is the show?

The show is 90 minutes, no intermission.

And while I didn't do rush, the theatre was about half-full when I saw it, so you should be fine with rush.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I saw it on a Thursday night with Anthony, Lisa Kron, and Dylan Walsh, and the theatre was half-empty. I didn't rush, however. But trust me, you won't have any trouble getting a rush seat.

I'd love to see this show. But my parents would be bored to tears.

re: Spalding Gray Stories to Tell What can i expect

So I went to the show last night. Got a rush ticket at 7:30...Row H, 103. It was a great seat. I am not sure how I felt about the show. With the exception of Journeys End, I have never seen a play that held my interest the entire time. While there were some touching monologues, I found myself checking my watch repeatedly. Could be because I was tired. I enjoyed Hazelle Goodman and Christopher Gorham. Kathleen Chalfant was not in the show last night. I did get to meet Christopher before the show and he was nice. I don't know if anyone waited after the show because I bolted for the subway to make a train back to Jersey. I am not sorry I went, but I am sorry I didn't get out of it what others seem to have.

This show is priority one on my trip to NYC in two weeks. Spalding made several trips to Albany in the late 80's and early 90's with "Gray's Anatomy" and "Morning Noon and Night," among others, and I would make every effort to see him.
