Hey!
I was wondering if any of you guys heading to see Spamalot soon, would be kind enough to speak to Simon Russell Beale at the stage door - and ask him if he is or is not to appear in the London production of the show?
Thanks :o)
It's been officially announced that Simon Russell Beale WILL be leading the London cast of Spamalot.
When I went to see Spamalot the day before New Year's Eve, a lady from London said to David Hyde Peirce at the stage door, "I've traveled quite a long way to see you". David said "Oh thank you did you enjoy the show, blah blah blah". Then she asked if he knew anything about the London production, and he said that Tim Curry might be doing it.
That was apparently on the cards for a little while, but to the surprise of absolutely nobody, it didn't happen. I swear I read an official announcement that SRB would open the show in London on here and other sites but I can't seem to find it now. Weird.
ETA: Aha! Found it. It was in the Post and reported on here.
SRB in London Spamalot.
The story in the NY Post wasn't an "official announcement" - it was a statement in a review by Clive Barnes, with no indication of the source of his information. I tend to think it's more likely than not, as it happens, but it wasn't an actual, official press release - which is the only thing I'll completely believe at this point (other than a statement by Simon Russell Beale at the stage door, of course!).

Just to bump/ask this question again? Anyone heard anything?
Thanks !
Only that Hannah Waddingham, of all people, is Lady Of The Lake, which doesn't really help you much.
Ah right cool. Ive heard that rumour too - only looked at a pic of her/never seen her perform. Why do you say of 'all people' then? ill agree that she doesnt look like the lady of the lake in my mind - but then again im pretty damn stuck on the image of Sara Ramirez in that role.
I am not a fan of Hannah. She thinks her voice is much more powerful than it actually is, so she's not terribly pleasant to listen to and misses a truckload of shows with vocal strain.
Ah - Erm...Great casting there then...lol.

I overheard him say he was going to be in the London production. Not sure if he'll be there when it opens or as a replacement though. I think he has another gig in between. I think he is leaving Broadway in April.
Oh that's interesting...Thanks for that snippet chuck. As tescos say - Every little helps!
Hmmm the more i think about this - I really want to know the possibilities of him actually going to London - why would he join the cast on Broadway only to leave so soon? Also - more info is needed about his supposed show at the National (also just as questionable if using the leaving Broadway so soon excuse...)
As you've probably guessed by my name/avatar i simply want to know my chances of Mr Curry reprising the role. I wish they didnt look so slim atm
It was announced today that Simon Russell Beale will be in two shows at the National Theatre's new season. One starts in April, the other doesn't begin until September. So I would say it's definite that SRB WON'T be opening the London run.

popcultureboy, would you be so kind as to post a link to any article that reports on today's announcements on Beale's being cast in those two productions at the National Theatre this year? I've searched these best I could online and have found nothing yet.
Thanks.

Thanks so much for that link! Well, that eliminates Mr. Russell Beale from the list of possible candidates for the part of Arthur in London, doesn't it?

BWW just put up a link to an article in Playbill that makes the same announcement about Beale: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/97964.html
Ah mate. This is getting seriously deep man...
Great info never the less - cheers!

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Tim Curry would open the run and then Simon would take over when he's done with his other projects. He did say something to the effect that he was going to to the London version, but not open it.
Well now Simon's officially out of the running for opening the show - I must admit it's slightly worrying to go from two huge rumours (Tim then Simon) to none...
Come on Tim! Do it! Do it for meeeeeee!
You don't want it to come to London, trust me, it's a waste of your time, and money.
Well - Having seen it...I totally disagree with you. And i sure as hell plan to 'waste' a lot of money and time on it :)
It's a fairly open secret that Tim Curry was miserable in the Broadway run of the show and couldn't wait for his contract to be up. So if he is doing London I can only imagine it's because he's being very well paid for a very short run.
Hmmm. I know he missed a lot of shows etc ... but he was miserable? How do we know that?
