So I saw Spamalot tonight, the first time I had seen it since Clay was in it and Hannah was the lady of the lake. That was around the time that the publicized lyric change from Brittney Spears to Posh Spice happened. I went tonight, and Marin Mazzie definitely said Brittney Spears so i was wondering, just out of curiosity, when they changed it back? Or did Marin just feel like saying Brittney?
Anyway Marin was great, and Drew Lachey was ermm serviceable and I liked Stephen Collins. The show was a little off for me tonight in general, but I think I may have just seen it too much lately. (10 dollar ticket I couldn't say no.) The audience was also rotten, and the ushers up in the balcony god awful. Do people have to be that nasty, really?
Marin was very nice at the stage door, as was everyone in the cast from Stephen Collins to Drew, they all took their time to take pictures with everyone. Also seemed happy that I brought my Camelot program!

I did not know they changed it back, unless Marin just slipped maybe. But there is a possibility they changed it back since there are no more stories about Britney Spears being a train wreak recently.
And yeah, even though I'm not a huge fan anymore, Drew is awesome and sweet. I met him years ago at a 98 Degrees concert.

Posted: 7/2/08 at 12:35amI saw it on June 22nd and she did say the Britney Spears line so I guess they went back to it. I have a question, was Tom Deckman there when you saw it or was he an understudy? Was there any understudies? Just curious.

When Hannah was in the show, she said that they tried another substitute for the Britney Spears reference after the Posh Spice one. Apparently referring to Heather Mills got a lot of laughs in the West End production, but they tried it once on Broadway and it fell flat. So they went back to Posh Spice.
I saw Marin in Passions but not in Spamalot so it's hard for me to wrap my mind around her playing such a broad comedic role. How does her interpretation compare to Waddingham or Ramirez?

Posted: 7/2/08 at 1:46pmI loved Marin in it. Honestly I think she is an amazing actress. I saw her in camelot and thought she was incredible. Hannah is probably my favorite though, she blew me away the last time i saw her. However, Marin is a pro, and milked it just as much, I think her voice is amazing and I can't wait to see her in something else.

Posted: 7/2/08 at 7:21pmJust thought I'd add my love and adoration for Marin Mazzie as well! She is a brillant theaterical actress as well as her tv roles, especially in Still Standing. I cannot wait for her to originate a role again on Broadway!

Posted: 7/3/08 at 8:06amI saw it with Marin Mazzie recently and she did the Britney line then as well, so I assume it's permanent. Maybe they don't feel Britney is as sad as she was when they changed it to Posh Spice (which was hysterical when Hannah did it). O'Donnell was in for Deckman when I saw it as well, and while he's very good, Tom Deckman owns the role, he's perfect in it. I hope he's back soon.
