JUST ANNOUNCED:
NATIONAL TOUR OF SPAMALOT BEGINS MARCH 7, 2006
AT BOSTON'S COLONIAL THEATRE
Boston, MA -- The Tony Award-winning Best Musical of 2005, Monty Python's SPAMALOT, will set out on a National Tour beginning March 7, 2006 at Boston's Colonial Theatre, followed by engagements in Chicago, and Washington, D.C. with additional dates to be announced in the United States and Canada. Casting, on-sale dates and ticket information will be announced at a later time.
Lovingly "ripped-off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's SPAMALOT is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols), as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical.
Sold-out since it opened on March 17, 2005, Monty Python's SPAMALOT has remained the hottest ticket on Broadway, continuing to break box office records at The Shubert Theatre.
Directed by Mike Nichols, Monty Python's SPAMALOT features a book by Eric Idle, based on the screenplay of Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, with music and lyrics by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. Casey Nicholaw is the choreographer.
Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail, Monty Python's SPAMALOT features a chorus line of dancing divas and knights, flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits and one legless knight.
Set and costume design for Monty Python's SPAMALOT is by Tony Award-winner Tim Hatley, lighting design is by Hugh Vanstone and sound design is by ACME Sound Partners. Others on the creative and production teams include David Brian Brown (Hair & Wig Design), Gregory Meeh (Special Effects Design), Elaine McCarthy (Projection Design), Joseph A. Campayno (Make-Up Design), Larry Hochman (Orchestrations), Glen Kelly (Music Arrangements), Todd Ellison (Vocal Arrangements), Michael Keller (Musical Coordinator), Peter Lawrence (Associate Director), Tara Rubin (Casting), and Gene O'Donovan (Production Manager).
Mike Nichols has been acclaimed as one of the great American directors in film, theater and television. He has won the Academy Award and seven Tony Awards. He recently received the Directors' Guild of America Award for Lifetime Achievement as well as a DGA Award for the direction of the HBO adaptation of Angels in America.
Aside from his work with Monty Python in films and on TV, Eric Idle has written a West End play, Pass the Butler; three novels, including "The Road to Mars", "The Rutles - A Mockumentary"; and many songs too rude to mention. He has sung opera, acted in movies, appeared on television and crossed America performing comedy on The Greedy Bastard Tour. His diary of his 15,000 mile journey by bus was recently published by Harper Collins, and his long awaited sequel "Rutles2, Can't Buy Me Lunch" was released by Warner Video in March. There's no saying what he might do next...
John Du Prez has composed over 20 feature film scores including "A Fish Called Wanda", "A Private Function", "The Meaning of Life", "Personal Services", "UHF", and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I, II & III". He has worked with Eric Idle since 1978.
Monty Python isn't a person, but a group of British actors and writers (and one American) that performed their famous comedy show "Monty Python's Flying Circus" on the BBC from 1969 to 1974, with subsequent international fame and success.
Monty Python's SPAMALOT is produced by Boyett Ostar Productions and is part of the Lexus Area Dealers Broadway in Boston Series.

I'm hopeing they have Sara do it, and it comes to St. Louis, so I can add her to my signed Playbill I got in Chicago with Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, and David Hyde Pierce. But based on recent discoveries, that may not happen. Damn you, Micheal Ridel!
Casting should be VERY interesting indeed; probably will be a great one again, though. 'tis in progress!
Can I once again point out that this would be an excellent opportunity for Sara Gettelfinger to escape her wastedness in DRS and take on the role of The Lady of the Lake? I love DRS, but come on!
I am so happy the first stop is in Boston because I'm going to college there!!!!!!!!!!! But I'll be a poor college student...hope it doesn't sell out like the Bway run.
I'd like to see it come through Pittsburgh, so that everyone who thinks I'm totally insane for being obsessed about this show could see WHY!!
MagicToDo, Sara Gettlefinger is a BRILLINAT idea! She has such an amazing voice and is spectacular in DRS but the part (in DRS) is too small for her. She deserves a bigger part like Lady of the Lake.

aren't you getting a vegas production of spam?
millie, broadway in boston has $20 student rush tickets...
sara ramirez will never do the tour... she can't even do 8 performances a week while living in one city... and you expect her to do it while traveling?
broadway in boston doesn't always have student rush.
It depends on the show...If they have any seats for Spamalot I bet they'll be extremely limited and pretty obstructed.
yeah, I live in SF, and I am not flying out to Vegas to watch a cliff notes version of the show.
Plus....as if tickets for shows aren't high enough...we are now expected to shell out an extra $150 to FLY to shows??
We in CA are getting SCREWED and I have a bad feeling that this is only the beginning...

oh, well yes. cali is getting screwed. i'm sorry... i just assumed by your post that you actually lived in vegas.

California is not getting screwed...you are VERY fortunate to get the shows you get.
God no..I wouldn't live there for anything! A weekend is enough and I can't wait to get out of there by the end of day 2!
This, of course, may have something to do with not being able to win at anything (slots, cards, tables, etc) while I am there.
The south seems to get "screwed" more than any other region...
We are getting SCREWED out of seeing Spamalot. That's all I'm talking about here.
Of course we are getting other great shows...Have you seen my posts on White Christmas, Lestat and A chorus Line coming, how SF is becoming a pre-Broadway stop for upcoming shows, and how much we love the old theaters we have?
I repeat...CA is getting SCREWED out of seeing Spamalot, and it's the beginning of a Vegas trend that I am not looking forward to.

i hear you justme...
(thank god i live on the east coast.)
apdarcy...you know I was responding to bdwytheater11, right? :)
And yeah..the east coast is the place to be for theater, you lucky dog, you!
I agree that this trend of shows going to Vegas is not a good thing---I have no interest in going to Vegas, and this makes me not want to go there even more (I hope I'm somewhat gramatically correct!)
