I've heard that Tom Hewitt is in negotiations to play King Arthur for the upcoming tour of SPAMALOT. He would be the only "star" in the show...not that it really needs a star to sell tickets.
I think it would be a great way for him to bounce back after the year he's had (Dracula and the Dolittle debacle).
We'll wait and see....

Posted: 11/22/05 at 4:20pmI think Tom Hewitt is definitely a star and if people are not that much into Broadway to know who he is, then why the hell do they want to see Spamalot??? I have the good fortune of being in Boston, the tour's first stop but i have no idea how i will be able to get a ticket.

Because the majority of the people going to see it are not going to see it for the "stars??????

I agree with Kringas. There are a lot of reasons people would want to see Spamalot. Mainly: A: They just want to see the show (um, Tom Hewitt is a semi-star, but that doesn't mean everyone who likes stage shows knows who he is); B: They're fans of Monty Python.

Monty Python will be the star of the tour. Not the "names".
Actually, I think Hewitt fits the role well. Hope the rumor's true... at least for his sake after the rough time he's had of it casting-wise lately.

It would be nice for Tom...I hope it's true. But yes, I found his star billing in the "Doolittle" tour rather odd. Of course Broadway fans know who he is, but no one else does. (Actually, this could be said for most Broadway stars nowadays.)
By the way, wasn't Chuck Wagner going to be Arthur in the tour, or is he too busy with the circus stuff now?

Yeah, Why pay huge salaries for names like Tim Curry or David HP or Hank Azaria when Python is the star? That must have been a stupid Mike Nichols trick! Dammit Mike!! You tricked us again!! Now we will never watch Diane Sawyer on TV anymore!!! You fooled us for the last time now!! (I'll bet he fixed the TONYS too - dammit!! Bought that award for Sara R. just to make her a NAME too and trick us all again!! Oh No!!!)
I'm boycotting this show till Faye Dunaway plays the Lady of the Lake!! No more foolin' me!!

I haven't much to add other than a cast member who is not rumor.
Darryl Semira (01) recently left the Broadway production in MAMMA, MIA!, where for over a year he understudied and played the role of Pepper and moved on to the Broadway musical BOMBAY DREAMS. He played a leading role in Charles Strouse’s new musical YOU NEVER KNOW at Trinity Rep in Providence, Rhode Island. Darryl returned to Ann Arbor last summer to choreograph LOOK TO THE RAINBOW, A Tribute to the Songs of Yip Harburg. Next he joins the company of the national tour of SPAMALOT.
