What a "nice" review. At least give us a reason why you thought it was garbage as opposed to just leaving it as fact.

Posted: 11/8/05 at 9:31amCould you possibly elaborate on why you feel this particular show is "theatrical garbage"? You have every right to your opinion, but you should at least explain why you feel the way you feel...Isn't that the whole point of writing a review?

Well clearly this is another thread to start the age old "Idina is a poo poo meanie" discussion up.
But really, it isn't much of a review, I like reading detailed reviews, bring it!

That's interesting, I found this to be one of the most compelling, thought provoking experiences I have had this season (musical or otherwise). I just wanted to see it again as soon as it was over. I simply could not get it out of my mind. Theatrical experiences such as these should not just be dismissed out of hand.
Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

Posted: 11/8/05 at 9:54amWo there kids! First off, my intention wasn't to write a review. Nor was my intention to start another apparent "Idina is a poo poo meanie" thread. If you look at the title of this thread you will see that my intention was to note that Michael Cerveris was in attendance. Dat's it.

Fair enough, WBAF.
However, would be it be possible for you to elaborate on your thoughts though? I am considering selling my tickets for this to see something different while I am in New York later this month. I'd love as many different opinions as possible.

I WAS THERE!!!!!
Okay...I actually enjoyed the show, but thats another topic. Micheal was so nice and the audience was talking more about him than the show itself. He seemed so enthusiastic about being there, it was really nice to see.
And, without all of that creepy corpse makeup sh*t, he looked very handsome! He can call me

She didnt come out because Steven Pasquale was performing at Joe's Pub last night - so she ran there after the show to catch her husband sing a duet with him and to cheer Steven on...
BTW - Steven has an incredible voice...

Posted: 11/8/05 at 11:21amDamn! *kicks self* I should have gone last night. Someone even had a ticket they were willing to sell me, but I turned it down. Alas, I can't be in two places at once.

Posted: 11/8/05 at 11:48amI was there last night as well and I loved it. I thought the score was wonderful and all the actors gave great performances. I loved the "method" (is that the right word?) of storytelling used in the book with parallel themes in each of the vignettes.

Steven Pasquale does have a gorgeous voice. I would've loved to have seen his show. Especially singing with Taye. I'm seeing them in A SOLDIER'S PLAY tomorrow night.
BTW, a real "review" of SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE is on its way...I'm just working.

Posted: 11/8/05 at 12:12pmWell I have tickets for the 8pm show on November 23 so I am super excited. I try not to pay attention to what the critics say and just make my own decision.

Posted: 11/8/05 at 12:16pmOh, wow. I'd love to hear those two sing together -- they are AMAZING together in A Soldier's Play. I just found out very recently that Pasquale could even sing, but *swooooon*.

I feel the need to defend this show! I saw it twice this weekend and I truly thought it was a great experience. It's unfortunate that the cast members involved seem to be attracting a lot of groupie type people who are only interested in seeing their favorite performers do reprises of old roles. The actors are trying something different, and I respect and support that. I understand the structure and subject matter of the show is not what most of us are used to, but to call it trash? I think maybe you just really didn't understand the show. The two acts are completely different, but tie into the same theme of seeing what one wants to see. I don't know . . . I thought it was pretty thought provoking.
And as far as Idina not coming out to say hi or whatever . . . are you going to the show to see her perform, or to get a picture taken with her? I understand wanting to meet her and stuff but . . . she works her ass off. Give the girl a break.
PS Patronus, DON'T sell your ticket.

Thanks for the words of advice.
This one bad review wouldn't really be a decided factor, there is just so much that I'd like to see (Color Purple, In My Life - for it's bad rep, Sweet Charity etc.) So many shows, so little time.
At this point, I am likely going to stick with SWIWS.
My other concern is getting from the theatre back to the Times Square area in time to do the lottery for an eve show. Anyone think this would be a concern?

Posted: 11/8/05 at 2:01pmEden Espinosa was in the audience when i saw it. And i got to see Idina and Eden together...2 former Elphabas...too bad im not a fan of Wicked.

Posted: 11/8/05 at 2:06pmPatronus - lottery shouldn't be an issue as long as you hustle out of the theater, and walk one block over to the 8th St. subway stop - then you can ride the N straight up to Times Square.

Wanna Be A Foster, I'm sorry you felt the piece was garbage - for I had the total opposite reaction after seeing it twice last weekend. I'm not going to go into why I felt that way - for it's easy to spoil the show for those that haven't seen it (and I'm thankful that it wasn't spoiled for me before I went). I'll just say that there is some amazing work going on in that little theater at the moment.
By the way, Idina did come out last weekend and was very gracious (taking pictures and signing) for everyone who waited. I felt like I needed to throw that in there with the noted sarcasm at the top of the thread.......

Posted: 11/10/05 at 1:02pmPatronus- getting to the lottery uptown will not be a problem at all. I saw the matinee last Saturday and even waited for the cast members to come out afterwards. We left the theater at 4:50 and were in line for the Rent lottery at 5:10. Make sure you know where the theater you want to go to is before hand. It won't be a problem at all. Like Lea said, just jump on the N, R, or W (make sure it's uptown!) and you will be in Times Square in 10 minutes.
Once upon a time I was a shy young thing
Could barely walk and talk so much as dance and sing
But let me hit that stage I wanna take my bow

Miketeevee, well said. I completly agree. I've seen SWIWS twice and really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the CD to come out...I can't get the songs out of my head.
Patronus, I hope you use your ticket. It really is worth the time (and energy to get to an evening lottery).
