Last night, I got picked to be one of the audience spellers! I wasn't overly familiar with the show, so I had no idea how much we would be in the show! Holy cow!! I was right in the middle of the thing for half of it! I got my first word right, but missed the second one. Too fun!! I still can't believe it happened....I am surprised I wasn't much more nervous!! I guess the fun atmosphere and great staff and cast helped!
Cool! What word did you miss? What flavor was your juice box?

I didn't notice the juice box flavor...it's still in my suitcase though...I'll report when I unpack!
I missed "cenical" or "senicle" or something like that...I forget the correct spelling! I guessed S-C-E-N-I-C-A-L, I think.
I'm a big muscular guy, so when I went up for my first word ("Mexicans"), they said I was 10 years old and worked as a bouncer somewhere. Then next, one of the characters got a hard word and complained "Hey, the bouncer got 'Mexicans' ".

Oooh, too cool! I'm going to assume you saw the Broadway cast?
Was it maybe cynical? Oh well. At least you spelled mexicans correctly
That sounds really fun! You actually get a juice box? I want to be a guest speller more than ever now! Haha. :)

No, it wasn't "cynical"...it was some obscure word...the definition was something biblical....I don't remember...
Yes, when you miss a word, the school "counselor" gives you a hug and a juice box...he made a cool joke during my hug and send-off but I don't want to spoil anything (I sure they repeat bits a lot).
They give the audience people an easy first word, then a real hard second word (then if they get that one, an impossible third word). One woman missed her first word, "jihad".
Oh, yes, the Broadway cast! But Barret Foa and Derrick Baskin were both out.
Fruit Punch flavor juice box!!!

When I was there, some kid (about 13) spelled "cow" wrong. I think that was like the 2nd time ever.
Was it "cenacle"?

I am so glad you had fun! I have never had more fun at a Broadway show than being a speller at Spelling Bee!

I saw it in Broward the other night, and the guy missed "jihad" as well. I thought maybe it was actually planned out for him to do that, 'cause, REALLY? But, yeah, I guess he just had no idea what it was.

The guy tonight got Jihad and a lot more words afterwards and they had to keep calling him back up to eliminate him.
*is very jealous*
Glad you had a good time!

The woman who got "jihad" in our group had a very odd misspelling for it: J-I-H-A-R-D. The actor playing Chip turned to me and said in a low voice (but in character), "She spelled ji-HARD!"

Haha! Awsome! I wish I could be a speller!
Awww... I was a speller too a couple of months ago and had the word "indigent." But I couldn't hear very well (or was very nervous) and thought they said "indignant" and spelled that correctly. But had to go sit down.... very sad....
omg jose llana is TOO FUNNY!
Was the sentence "In the cenacle where Jesus had the last supper he said " I am a Jew, but tonight one of you will betray me so I'm ordering the shrimp?" Or have they changed the sentence since I last saw it?

It is still that sentence.

I think that was it. OMG I was too nervous and concentrating on not falling on my face, to remember what the jokes were when I was standing out there...
