So I just got cast as William Barfee in Spelling Bee and I was wondering a if anyone had any tips and 2 if anyone had the score. Thanks!!!!

1) Remember that the nude scene should be funny AND sexy.

1. Listen to your director....really the only person to listen to since you HAVE been cast.

2. You'll get your music from your director as well. Think of him/her as god.

3. Have fun and congrats.


If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thanks guys. I know I will get the music eventually but we don't start till this summer so I wanted to get a head start since we only rehearse for 8 days. I'm really excited its my first time at this theatre and they cast me in two paid roles for the summer!

The only thing I can share to add is that Barfee has... well, not a character voice, but a physical defect which causes his nasal passage to be closed. So speak and sing without nasal resonance if you can. That's right in the script, though, not just a "character note."
