Great seats available, too. Got 2 for one of the final previews Row G on the aisle for only $50 each.

re: Spelling Bee in San Francisco

If it's at the Post it's not a national tour. It also is supposed to be playing for six months or so which would make it a San Francisco sit down.

Please update us when it is cast. I for one would love to see a photo of the San Francisco ensemble. Of course my heart belongs to the original Broadway cast but break a leg to all of the Spelling Bee sit down productions and tours .
I hope all of those cities fall in love with the little show that could.....And Did!!!!

re: Spelling Bee in San Francisco

There were just cast calls posted this past weekend. It looks like they are doing a sit down in Chicago and SF to generate interest in a national tour. The post has booked it through mid June I believe, and if they get enough hype they will generate a tour from there.

I wonder if there will be several sit-downs across the country. The show has such a chance to succeed everywhere (low operating cost, small cast, universal appeal, etc).

That would also be a solution to touring with children. That's a very tricky thing to do - if you have a set cast in one location you are not worrying about school and union regulations for kids.

I think the tour will be a separate entity and is already in the works. Also, let's not forget the production opening in Australia in Jan. A female who is supposed to be Australia's most gifted commedianne is playing Barfee (as a male). She will need good upper body strength for the Olive lift in their fantasy ballet.
I hope we get feedback on that as well.

Cheesedoodle---I know this cast is brilliant at portraying 10-12 year olds--but on Broadway most of them are in late twenties and long past worries of travelling with tutors. My assumption is that the touring companies will be comprised of actors of the same age group

Lumatic - I hear you and agree. Why there are several people here on these boards way past their twenties who behave like 10 and 12 year olds! LOL - I say we do a casting call here!

re: Spelling Bee in San Francisco

You know---actually it is such a tribute to the original ensemble that they so brilliantly inhabit the minds and bodies of middle schoolers. Having adult actors play children is risky because if the portrayal isn't 100% believable--it is an ugly thing to watch...
