Posted: 6/5/11 at 3:47pmThis show could not be more bereft of violence. I mean I'm not asking for dismemberment here but at least up the ante from what we'd see in a Saturday morning cartoon. Spider-Man kills literally every villain simply by throwing webs at them and watching them flail as the lift goes down, except for the Goblin, who gets pushed off a building because he's tied to a piano he randomly decided to push off it (????)

LegallyBroadway2 (or someone else who has seen the show), could someone explain to me what the 'weaving' sequence is supposed to look like?
I saw Spider-Man for the first and probably only time yesterday. We got the women hanging from their vertical ribbons, with all except one woman swinging front to back. Nothing happened horizontally, and then when the women hit the stage a stagehand came out to unhook the one woman who hadn't been swinging. I saw a one second clip online that looked like there were supposed to be horizontal ribbons that the women jump over while swinging? Or something. Anyway, the more I think about it the more I'm curious as to what I missed.

Sooo first- picture this.
The set is the bridge seen during No More and the second level walkway. The backdrop to Oz Corp is lit to resemble a sun on a beautiful amber afternoon. Downstage right is a structure piece also belonging to Oz Corp.
Mary Jane, Peter, and Aunt May enter from stage right and cross to a bench. After talking about graduation, aunt may pressures Peter into spending alone time with Mary Jane.
Peter and Mary Jane question the future, and ultimately bond.
Focus changes center stage, as Norman and his wife enter with a control panel. The large gene splicer lifts from the center elevator. Peter and Mary Jane appear on the top walkway.
Norman prepares the experiment, and steps in. His wife starts the macine. He spews out the porcess and the unrehearsed steps to take. Quickly, though, the machine warns a possible failure. It's too late to turn back, Norman yells.
She presses go. The machine lightens up and begins it's mutation. Peter and Mary Jane are still above.
The structure of Oz Corp illuminates with swirling images of different speicess, being mixed with Norman's DNA. His form is seen spinning in the machine, the veins and blood pulsing with a new type of blood.
A explosive alert appears. Mrs. Osborn lunges for the machine, and in an attempt to pull open the glass, electrocuted herself. She falls to the floor
Above, Mary Jane kisses Peter. Below, the machine's meltdown inntedupts their first kiss. Mary Jane points in the direction of the explosion. Peter recognizes it as Oz Corp. He runs off, his demands as Spider-Man call.
Focus changes completely to Norman, who walks out of the machine. His skin is rippling with a new skin- a green form stands in his shoes. He sees his wife on the floor.in honor of her death, he vows to continue their work, and stop whoever stand in his way.
The Green Goblin's voice is intorduced- his laugh shaking the rafters.
Spider-Man swings down from the Upper Balcony launch pad. He swings to the opposite proscenium, stage left. To Be Comtinued is projected on the Oz Corp structure, as spidey peeks from around the proscenium.
Blackout.

The weaving really is stunning.
All the weavers are pulled up. At the climax of the instrumental- every other girl is released. She swings forward. A ribbon shoots up, and to the top of the stage. The next set if girls swing forward, and another ribbon shoots horizontally up, and stops just short of the first. Now, every other girl is swinging, in perfect rhythm. They dont jump over the hirizontal rinbons, because girl 1,3,5 are swung all the way ypstage as girls 2,4,6 are over the aydience. The ribbons just slide up to the center axis. This happens until the final ribbon flies up. The entire portal is a tapastry. All the girls step upon the base in which they had been propelling themselves on. They step out of their ribbons, and kneel on the stage deck.

Reminded me of a Cirque Vegas show. It was indeed stunning
The infamous scene taped on a cellphone where Carney was injured. Mary Jane is hanging off the bridge but instead of jumping over it fades to black & thancomes back with Spidey going down a wire.

Just got my ticket to see this August 4th. I am so excited! How is the view from the first row of the balcony?

The first row should be fine. I sat in row D the first time I saw spidey 1.0
I missed only seconds of the flying, as there are points where he flies under the sight line.
On stage, you will miss nothing- except the beautiful Chrysler building. It is at such an angle that you don't see it's flat side.
That was a disappointment for me, but in no way ruined the show.
I was actually surprised by the great view
