Not to be rude, PopAria, just curious to explore your statement- what would Spider-Man's marketing team do that any other show doesn't do if they were to receive just one nomination?

If Newsies, Once, and Leap don't set the world on fire, Spidey might just shock the world and win Best Musical. Its touring possibilities are endless, and that sometimes affects the voter's opinions. Any tour would be a much scaled-down version, of course.
Hey legally broadway, you're right, every other show would market one nom the same way. I just walked past the palace today and smirked at their sign that read "BEST SHOW ... award nominations"
I just feel like Spider-Man has a lot more $ to do more special stuff with announcements of their nominations.

And Ghost, and Nice Work, and...
Spider-Man touring possibilities endless? More like non-existent. If it were to tour, it would have to be a completely different show.
I don't think it's going to get anything
LegallyBroadway2, I'm not a big fan of Spider-Man, but I really have a lot of respect for the way you stick up for the show you like. You seem to be able to maintain your composure and humor even when people are lobbing ad hominems at you for liking something they don't. And, in general, it's really refreshing when someone is passionate in telling us about what they love rather than what they hate.

@PopAria, yea, just curious because like.. sometimes I do have to smile when I see ******BEST MUSICAL****** in a huge flashy font and in tiny print Broadway.com Award or something hahaha. But, I was thinking too, that because they have pulled some big stunts, as you were referring to there incredible amount of advertisement power, they would try something, possibly.
@kdogg36, I truly don't think I have the capability to tear apart a show like I've seen done to countless productions talked about on this site. I have a lot of respect, as a student of this art watching and learning from these people who have brought fourth, like it or not, the largest Broadway event in history (which some people love, some people enjoy, some people just sat through it, and some people will never set foot in that theatre again! so be it!). And all shows, whether they disappointed me or were phenomenal and had critical success as well as high honors, are each remarkable to me in different ways. I truly cannot dispel someone's opinion, so why try? I just enjoy these boards for that rare time we can come together and discus the logistics of this business or the art of a piece.
Spider-Man will always be what it is to me, no award in the universe can prove anything and no silly arguments on a website will dispel it.
My taste is my taste, and, as you said, you're not a fan of the show, I'm sure if we ever talked, we'd be able to discuss the weak points, and agree on some great moments, thats, to me, what this type of forum is about.
Or, I'm just a silly beacon of positivity. get it...? anyone..? legally blonde..? hur hur.
Yes, I'm sure we could have a great conversation about the strong points and the weak points! (Incidentally, the weaving scene at the beginning is breathtaking and probably the thing I remember most fondly about the show, which makes me wonder how the producers can downplay Taymor's contributions. But I digress.)

I think it might be interesting, as long as we're talking about Spidey and the Tony ceremony, I'm wondering if no matter what nomination, they'll perform.. but what would they perform. It would be cool to see one of their technical moments, like bouncing off the walls (without that really... not appealing puppetry that follows the bedroom scene) or something similar. I just hope they put very careful consideration into it, unlike the performance on the parade.
I can't believe it's come to this, but I think Spiderman has a very good chance at getting a Best Musical nomination along with several other technical awards. This season has been lackluster one so far with a dearth of original musicals. And the Tonys would love to have an excuse to have Spiderman perform (again).

@Matt- But 2012 marks the trail of destruction to end of the world. Isn't it only appropriate Spider-Man would receive a nomination or two?

Or, you might want to wait until a handful of new musicals open before the season ends. Just an idea.
I think it has a good chance at getting best musical nomination. Scenic design and costume design most likely will get a nomination. Maybe Damiano and Page?

Since Eiko Ishioka just passed away, a nom in costume design is assured.
Is it? Her costumes for the show are the best of the season. They are incredibly imaginative.
